One moment, we were talking about her parents; the next, Sapphire was screaming, her hands clasped to her ears as if she was fighting off a certain kind of noise.
Before I could reach out to her, Leon held her and shook her. “By the moon! I told her not to come here! This place isn’t good for her mental state.”
I blinked. My eyes flicked to the people digging, then back to her. The more they hit, the louder her screams got.
“Stop digging!” I yelled.
They stopped immediately, their surprised gazes landing on us. I returned my attention to Sapphire, my heart clenching at the tears on her face. She looked pale, almost helpless. From what had happened, it was obvious there was more to this graveyard than just her parents being buried here.
