Chapter 5

740 Words
Alexander POV The last day of our honeymoon arrives too quickly. I managed to steal a full week away from work—something I haven’t done in years—and we spent it sailing through the Aegean Sea. Island after island. Clear water. Sun-soaked streets. Food I had never allowed myself the time to truly enjoy. And Angelica. With her, everything feels lighter. We laughed more than I expected. Talked for hours. Walked through narrow streets hand in hand like a normal couple. For once, no weapons. No meetings. No blood. She looks happy. And that thought terrifies me more than anything. She fits into my life too easily. Into my bed. Into my arms. Into my routine. She listens, responds, adapts. She gives me everything I want without resistance—and I don’t know if that makes her perfect… Or dangerous. I’ve been fooled before. Still, I can’t deny it anymore: I’m falling for her. She’s beautiful inside and out—soft where I’m sharp, warm where I’m cold. And she trusts me. Completely. That kind of trust is intoxicating. Too intoxicating. I sit on the deck, watching the water when her voice pulls me back. “Alex? Are you okay?” She steps closer, worry flickering in her eyes. I pull her onto my lap automatically, my arm wrapping around her waist like it belongs there. “Yes,” I say. “Why?” “You look like you’re thinking about something you don’t like,” she murmurs, kissing my cheek. I study her face. Open. Honest. No masks. “I’m just not ready for this to end,” I admit. She smiles, leaning close to my ear. “We can always travel again. I won’t say no.” Her tone shifts—playful, teasing, knowing exactly what she’s doing. “I never say no to you, sir,” she whispers. My body reacts instantly. She knows the effect she has on me. And she enjoys it. I glance around the deck, then nod subtly to my men. They disappear without a word. She obeys every unspoken command. Comes closer when I pull her. Stays still when I need her to. Looks at me like I’m her center. I like that. No—I crave it. Later, when she curls against me, laughing softly, I cup her face. “My mother called,” she says, amused. “She asked if we’re having… fun.” I arch a brow. “She wants a grandchild,” Angelica adds, laughing. “And you?” I ask quietly. “Are you okay with that?” She hesitates—just for a second. “That’s one of the reasons we married, isn’t it? It will happen at some point.” I don’t like that answer. “It started that way,” I say. “But it’s not just that anymore.” She smiles gently. “We have chemistry, Alex. That makes everything easier.” Chemistry. She doesn’t know yet how deep this goes for me. I don’t tell her that I already imagine her pregnant. In my home. Safe. Untouchable. Marked permanently as mine. I don’t tell her that I watch how men look at her—and memorize their faces. I don’t tell her that the idea of her lying to me makes something dark twist in my chest. We return to Athens, say our goodbyes. She falls asleep on the plane, trusting me enough to rest beside me without fear. When we arrive in Moscow, she sleeps again in the car. I carry her inside my mansion myself. Mine. I lay her in my bed, not hers. Not a guest room. My bed. In the morning, I let her sleep while I handle business. I tell my mother not to wake her, to make sure she eats when she does. I don’t want her stressed. I don’t want her tired. I want her dependent. The meeting about Max confirms what I already know. He’s angry. He didn’t expect me to marry her. Good. Let him rage. Let him threaten war. I’ll end him before he ever comes near her. Angelica is the best thing that’s happened to me in years. What started as an arrangement is turning into something far more dangerous. Because now, it’s not just about alliances. She’s mine. And I will destroy anyone who tries to take her from me. Even if that means testing her loyalty first.
