Chapter One Nemesis POV I wake up to the loud beeping of my alarm. f*****g incredible. 6am, time to get ready for school. “NEMESIS, GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE FOR BREAKFAST!” I hear my brother call from downstairs. I resist the urge to tell him to go f**k himself. My family… Well, they f*****g hate me. My birth parents died when I was born, and dropped me off with my aunt and uncle, and their asshole son- Ethan. Although they insist upon me calling them mom and dad, it’s purely for the sake of public appearance. They ignore me. I wouldn’t be living for them if I wasn’t still a minor. Speaking of, tomorrow is my 16th birthday. Will anyone at home remember? No. I’m treating myself to a trip to Hawaii with my best friends, Jared and Liam. I told my parents that I’d be going out of town for the week, but I don’t think they actually listened. They’re rather rich, and are always traveling for various reasons. That leaves me with my asshole brother, Ethan. He reminds me at every turn that I’m not actually his sister. I remind him that my bank account has several more zeroes at the end than his will ever have. Yeah, my parents left me a f**k ton of money when they died. Like… A few billion. My current mom and dad have a few million. I briefly get ready, throwing on a white crop top, black flare skirt, and white heels. I choose a black custom Chanel backpack and load all of my school s**t into it. Upon running downstairs I grab a yoghurt to go. “Morning, Nemesis” the house keeper, Andy, greets me. “Hey, Andy” I say with a smile, giving her a hug. My brother walks in. “Nemesis” he greets flatly. “Asshole. Whoops, I meant Austin” I respond. He shoots me a glare. “Are you sure you should be eating that whole yoghurt?” he asks. I pause and put on a thoughtful expression, quietly counting numbers before making eye contact with him. “The twelve modeling agents and agencies after me think otherwise. Are you upset that I can eat whatever the f**k I want and look hot while you have to work out to maintain any semblance of a good body?” I ask with a fake pout. I’m honestly not a mean person at heart. But when somebody gives me s**t, I give it straight back to them. His face turns red with anger. “What? Upset that your sister has more going for her than you ever will?” “You’re not my f*****g sister!” he spits. I offer him a wide smile. “You’ll be begging to be my brother when I’m famous, and you’re just a trust fund kid.” “f**k you!” I crinkle my nose rudely. “I’d rather f**k a broken twig than you.” With that I turn, grab my care keys, and walk out of the door. I run my hand along the side of my baby- a custom BMW M6. f*****g fantastic. “Now that is what I call a sexy car” I say with a low whistle. “Are you seriously attracted to a car?” Austin snorts. “Am I attracted to my custom-made BMW M6? Offered by the CEO of BMW because he was close with my real mama and papa? Yes, I absolutely am. But I suppose if I had that 2018 piece of s**t Porsche you have I wouldn’t be attracted to it, either.” He shakes his head. “You’re such a f*****g b***h” he says. I shrug. “It’s one of my best qualities.” With that I get into my car and speed off to school. I turn on the radio and blast showtunes, singing along. Austin doesn’t know that, despite my façade, his words really get to me. So do moms and dads. I’ve been seeing a therapist on the down low, and my diagnosis is general depression and anxiety. It’s not something super concerning, as of now, but if I don’t watch it- it can quickly turn into suicidal ideation. I already struggle with thoughts of self harm. I try to take care of it by writing dark poetry, getting my emotions out that way. It’s the most effective thing I can do, along with talk therapy. As I walk into the school, I’m bombarded by my circle of friends. I have a large circle of friends, but only really have two friends who I adore and completely trust. Everyone else just kind of looks up to me. I’m captain of the cheerleading team, yet actively lead campaigns for anti- bullying and reprimand those that do bully. Jared and Liam come up to me, each looping one of my arms through theirs. “Hey guys! How are you?” I ask them, and everyone in general. I get a chorus of “Good, great! Pretty solid! What about you? How are you” s. I smile. “I’m doing pretty solid. Excited to go to Hawaii” I smile wide, planting a big kiss on Jared and Liam’s cheeks. “It’s going to be a blast” the three of us say at the same time, before bursting out in laughter.
