Chapter Eight

680 Words
We are in a restaurant with Alex, Betty, Linus Nelly and Femi. Nelly and Linus are talking in low tones. Everyone else is eating and talking. About God knows what. We ordered roasted meat, ugali and some chips. Kachumbari was not left out either. Linus is laughing heartily at something that Nelly just whispered to his ear. Femi who is seated directly opposite me is looking at me and trying hard to maintain eye contact but I am struggling hard to keep my eyes off him. He fits nicely in our group. Alex and Betty are really sweet together. I envy them in a sweet way. Femi is very handsome. He is medium height dark in complexion and a very soft texture of skin. We are really enjoying our meal. I concentrate on my plate the same time that Nelly my little sister calls out my name and asks if I am ok. ‘’You must be missing Felix a lot sis,’’ she says and I cannot help but smile at the thought of that. ‘’Do not be sad baby girl; all of us here love you enough for him. We care about you and we are looking after you. Cheer up baby girl. ’She says and smiles loveably The moment she finishes saying that, everyone else is murmuring a ‘’sure’’ and smiling sweetly. That is the same time I hear gunshots and I let out a loud scream. I scream repeatedly then I hear Nelly calling my name. That is when I realize I was sleeping and dreaming. I let Nelly in and she is worried about my status. I tell Nelly about the dream and Femi whom I can remember very well I met in the bus when I was coming home from work yesterday evening. I am officially worried about what could be up with him. She consoles me and we end up sleeping together in my bedroom. It is on Wednesday morning. Felix who was supposed to begin his journey on this particular day has sent me a text saying he is on his way home. I smile and send a text back saying safe travels my love. I know he will not see the message immediately but he will see it anyway. He keeps updating me every time he could access WIFI so I am up-to-date on his homecoming. I met him online but not anymore he’s coming home. On Sunday evening Felix: Hey, I am in Doha my love. How are you? Me: I love you; I miss you that is how I am. I am happy you are not so far away from me. Felix: Not so far away babe I will be home soon! Let’s catch up soon wifey. When I hear that name I feel electric sparkles all over and my feet grow weak. Have you ever been into a situation where you are so excited and anxious that you don’t feel anything? That is me now. Nelly looks at me and says ‘’Relax Emali, I just hope he is a good man, because I don’t want anyone to take advantage of you sis.’’ Me: Yes mum (I tease her and force a smile) Want to know why Nelly is my favourite person? There you go, she never leaves me alone. My big sister that I also call little sister has always kept me company and promised to kick Felix’s a*s if he ever misbehaved. There is no way I could have gone for him at the airport since he had told me he would arrive at 1 am so I have to wait until he is home then we would plan for a date. Monday morning in the office as usual, I receive a call from an unknown number but my true caller is kind enough to show me his full names. He is home, here in Kenya, in the city, finally, no e meeting anymore.
