A few moments later, Ruby was discharged on her own accord, since her husband had also turned his back on her, there was nothing she'd still be doing on the hospital bed.
First, she decided to head to the Koe villa to confront her husband and his family for the last time.
In the cab, Ruby hung her head back, holding her baby in her hand.
Memories from 3 years ago flooded her mind.
That day, she had just finished submitting her twelfth resume with no hope of getting an interview.
The next morning, she received a call from a strange number. She was at first reluctant to pick it, thinking it was one of her admirers since all she wanted so desperately, was just a job to take care of her aging parents.
“Ruby?” Eitan asked and she nodded.
“I'll just cut to the chase. I need a wife and I think you'll be good at it.”
Ruby flinched at his words. Confused, she asked, “Wife? But I'm here for the secretary position sir.”
“Listen, I need an heir and if you can give me that, I'll take care of your parents and also make sure your needs are taken care of.” He said, pushing a set of papers to her, “you know what to do if you're in.”
He said, without exchanging a second glance with her.
Ruby was first caught up admiring his charms, his manner of words and his green eyes. Also, his promise to take care of her parents, which was her ultimate goal, made her more than eager to agree to the marriage. She flipped through the pages without hesitation and signed at the end.
Unknown to her, she had just signed away her freedom.
“We're here, ma'am.”
The cab man's voice brings her back from her mind. The reality is the man she had fallen in love with that day is now divorcing her, even though everybody thinks she's just in it for the money. Which she can't prove wrong, it's a sad thing she truly loves him, but no one will believe that.
She stepped out of the cab, holding her baby to her chest, she dipped her hand into her pants, which had been given to her by the nurse, when it was time to leave, and she didn't have any clothes to change to as her initial dress was soaked with blood during her labor.
“Thanks.” She said, handing the fare to the cab man as he turned and drove away.
She stood for a moment, looking at the villa which was once her home. Her eyes lit up as her gaze fell on a heap of loads stacked beside the trash drum. Those are her dear belongings.
She moved swiftly on the road towards the roads, but a screeching of a fast car sent her off balance. Before she knew what was happening, she fell on her ass, holding the baby tighter with panic, the pain itched over her entire body.
She thought she was going to be matched until the car suddenly came to a halt, the headlights almost kissing her.
The two sides of the car flew open, and a familiar heel stepped out.
“Poor Ruby, here you are,” Said Leah. She was the one that drove the car.
“Ooh, Leah, you almost crashed into Ella, at least be nice to her, she's your brother's ex-wife,” Maria said with a sneer of contempt. One may think she's scolding Leah, but she was actually mocking Ruby.
“Hahaa, my bad. Ex-wife, I'm so sorry I didn't mash you.” Leah said as she glanced over Ruby, who was holding her baby even tighter and now her head down.
Leah and Maria burst into hearty laughter, the symphony echoed through the estate.
“Have you made up your mind now? Where's the agreement? Have you signed it?” Maria bent down by her side, bombarding her with questions. She giggled, her high-pitched laughter made Ruby flinch. She guided her baby and wished the ground would just swallow her.
At that moment, a white Rolls-Royce was fast approaching, and it came to a halt behind the car Leah had packed earlier.
All heads turned in that direction. As a man and a woman stepped down from the luxurious car.
The man, who's 6 '2 tall, his sharp jawlines befitting his dark shades resting perfectly on his pointed nose that compliments his entire physique.
He wore a well-fitted suit with muscles threatening to burst out any moment.
He raised his arm and the woman handed her hand to his folded arm. He then bent slightly and plastered a tight kiss on his lips.
Ruby's heart started accelerating as both of them started walking simultaneously towards her.
“Huh, Eitan. You're here.” Ruby scoffed. She'd been anticipating meeting Eitan and, fixing the matter but seeing another woman in his arms and the way he smiled at her every second, she couldn't fathom it.
“Daddy is here, Shira.” She said, rubbing the baby's jelly hair.
“Oh, you already named her? Good for you. I'm also glad to introduce you to you,” he turned to the woman in his arms, “my love, my new mistress, Rachel, the woman I truly love.”
Dumbstruck, Ruby switched glances between the two, “she's prettier than me, huh?”
“I like the fact that you admit that easily. That is what I thought too. Anyway, what are you still doing here?”
“I was waiting, as you can see. You need to see our baby, she looks so much like you.” She said, turning the baby's face towards him.
“Who’s baby?” Eitan scoffed. “Only a fool will agree to raise an obvious bastard.”
“My child is not a bastard, Eitan. Watch what you say.”
“Oh, is she not? Then who's her father?”
“Eitan, you are…”
“Stop talking nonsense now, Ruby.”
“I will never raise that bastard with you. She wasn't mine, and I'm not her father. Okay?”
“Just take your child and leave. I want you gone, Ruby.” Eitan snorted, wrapping his arms around his new mistress. His cold face dissolved into a warm smile as he locked eyes with her. An expression Ruby never saw the entire time they'd been together.
“Just sign the paper and get lost.” He said, holding his mistress tight by her waist as they walked through the gate.
“You see? You should have respect for yourself and never come here. Hope you're not expecting to get anything from us, because I'll never allow that to happen. You won't take a dime from us.”
“Now, will you sign the paper now or should I force you?”
With a deep sigh, Ruby took out the folded paper from her back pocket and placed it on the car bonnet. She grabbed the pen Leah threw to her with the same hand holding the baby with her right hand, she turned the pages swiftly and scrubbed her signature as she gave it to Maria.
“Goodbye, Ruby.”
The clouds suddenly turn dark, and the rain starts pouring with no signs.
Ruby took off her blouse and wrapped her baby in it as there was no place to hide at sight. A pang of grief took over her entire being, her face buried in her palm with the baby on her lap, and she started praying silently to God.
An umbrella suddenly came over her head as the rain began to fall.
“Who are you?” She looked up to see blue eyes that looked just like hers.
“I am Ryan, your twin brother.”
“What? I'm a twin?” she bellowed, shock written all over her face.
“Yes, we are,” Ryan confirmed.
“Who are those people?”
“You don't need to worry, let's get you and the baby out of this place.
first. Okay?”
“Before anything, let's get you and the baby out of here first. Shall we?”
Ruby nodded in agreement.
