“Relax, I didn’t kill him. He will wake up in a couple hours with a headache, but that’s it.” Bo said as he fished the keys out of Roberts pocket.
Bo walked over to open the rusty car door as it groaned in protest. I cringed at the awful sound and walked to step over Robert’s limp body before climbing into the passenger seat. Bo quickly grabbed my luggage from his car and put it in the trunk. Flashing to the other side of the car, Bo quickly got in and turned over the ignition before taking off as fast as possible, jolting me in the passenger seat.
“Okay what all was that back there?” I questioned him.
“You are exhibiting signs of a werewolf. Because no one has ever seen a werewolf hybrid like you, you are considered an abomination.”
“No no, I get that. I mean the whole mate crap.”
“Oh, that. Werewolves have one mate that they are made for. Often, they can tell because of a special scent or their wolf telling them so. I lied to Robert the werewolf back there because according to pack law, all unmarked female wolves must meet the Alpha to see if she is his, or any of his packs, mate. The males outnumber the female wolf population 3-1 making them extremely valuable. We don’t have time to deal with all that nonsense.” Bo explained.
“Oh cool, I got worried there for a second.” I said both relieved and disappointed.
“Although it seems your wolf has chosen me as a potential mate. Your wolf challenged Gwen in her own territory.” Bo laughed a little.
“I’m not even sure what to do with that information.” I told him honestly. I was too afraid to make eye contact.
“You can do nothing about it, or when you're comfortable we can approach the topic.” He said casually as he turned a corner sharply. I grabbed onto the grab handle as I leaned against the door to prevent myself from slamming into it.
“Oh. So do I literally have a wolf inside me?” I asked trying to divert the conversation. Bo smiled slightly.
“Yes, although it seems your wolf is dormant under your Phoenix. Makes sense though, the Phoenix bloodline is a lot more powerful than the werewolf one.” Bo explained thoughtfully. Just as he had finished, we entered a private airstrip. Bo parked and then opened the packet that Gwen had given us.
“So, Dammy huh?” I said with amusement.
“Do me a favor and don’t remind me.” Bo sighed exasperated. I laughed and took the passport he gave me.
“Hey, you’re the one who said she was eccentric. I would like to point out that, THAT was something.” I continued to laugh.
“I said don’t remind me!” He growled angrily. Honestly, it hurt my feelings more than it should have. For that reason, I opened my door and got out myself. Bo got out and flashed to my side to close the door for me. The only problem was he slammed it.
“Okay, what is your problem!?” I asked frustrated.
“Don’t worry about it.” He growled again before walking to the back of the trunk to open it.
“Well, your attitude is both hurting my feelings and pissing me off. You have been nothing but patient with me and a gentleman up until now. So, you damn well better explain yourself, or else I’m not getting on that plane.” I got in his face and waited for his response.
Bo took a deep breath and exhaled before cracking his neck and then proceeded to open the trunk and take out my luggage. He then proceeded to walk away from me and to the plane that was waiting for us. I growled in frustration and began to follow after him.
Bo climbed up the stairs of the private plane and I planted myself at the foot of them. After a few moments Bo peaked his head out.
“Get in here.” He ordered.
“Not until you tell me what your problem is.” I replied stubbornly. Instead of responding, Bo flashed to my side and tossed me over his shoulder before taking me up the stairs.
“What the hell are you doing?! Put me down!” I yelled at him.
Bo didn’t listen. Instead, he brought me onto the plane and gently lowered me into a seat. I was fuming with anger at the caveman-like behavior he’d just shown.
“Listen to me because I’m only going to say this once. Don’t ever make me do that again.” he said sternly. “I hate treating you that way, but we are on a timeline. Not only will the supernatural counsel be after us shortly, but the werewolves will be after us too.”
“I see your point, and I understand.” I responded after a few moments. “Now can you tell me why you are angry with me?”
“Elena I’m not angry with you. I am embarrassed at what you had to see at Gwenn’s house. I am confused that your wolf had claimed me as your mate. I am also not happy that I had to start a commotion with the New Orleans pack.” He vented.
“I’m sorry.” I said with emotion. I felt stupid. My wolf claimed him, and I didn’t think to how he would feel about it.
“It’s not your fault.” Bo sighed.
“I’m sorry my wolf claimed you. You must feel uncomfortable about it. Just don’t worry about it. Okay?” I tried to put him at ease but as soon as the words were out of my mouth, I could feel something in me clawing to get out.
“The problem Elena is your mother tasked me to look after you. Not to be involved with you.” He said angrily.
“So….”
“So, the problem is your wolf has claimed me. I feel dirty. Your barely of age.”
“Whoa there. I’m about to be 19, I got held back a grade, so what?” I said, trying to lighten the mood.
“Dammit listen to me!” he growled.
“Okay.” I said quietly.
Bo sat down in the seat across from me as the plane started to move. We both buckled up and I gripped my chair tightly as I tried to calm my nerves.
“Are you okay?” Bo asked with concern in his voice.
“Just peachy.” I replied as the plane shook. In a flash Bo had undone his seat belt and sat down next to me and buckled himself in again.
“You’re not supposed to do that while we are taking off!” I yelled at him.
“Relax. I’m just fine.” He said as he grabbed my left hand in his. I squeezed it and closed my eyes as I waited out the climb to reach altitude. Finally, after a few minutes, the plane stabilized, and I let out a breath I didn’t know I had been holding.
“How are you feeling?” he asked me, rubbing his thumb over my hand. It felt like electricity shooting up my hand and arm.
“I’m fine thank you.” My breathing went back to normal.
“Elena?” Bo looked at me.
“Yes?” I looked at him expectantly. He opened his mouth to speak but closed it abruptly.
“There is a bed in the back should you get tired. You’ve had a trying day.” He said emotionlessly. He then stood up and walked to the front where the cockpit was.
He was right though, I was tired. I had cried, laughed, and been terrified and nearly died. All I could hope for was that when I woke up later, that it would be a better day. I just need to put all of this ‘wolf’ business behind me. It might be best if I leave that subject alone for a while. Being a Phoenix is hard enough.
