CHAPTER 12

EVERY MORNING IN the pack house was always hectic and was always filled with noise and activities from the main lobby and dining area. Sadly, my room was just above the dining, so almost every sound was transported up to me. I had barely slept for 3 hours, since I left the hospital in the early hours of the morning. I woke up and groggily made my way to the bathroom to wash up. I looked at myself in the mirror and chuckled. How absurd could that Lucy girl be that she would think I am going to take her man? I scoffed. I had blazing red hair, it was always so stubborn and hard to style that most times, I simply packed it in a tight ponytail or left it hanging around my very plain face. My face was speckled with freckles that dotted around my nose and underneath my eyes, which has to be my most unique feature. They were light brown. Something I had gotten from my father. I brushed my teeth and bound my hair with a rubber band before going downstairs. "I didn't expect you to be up, this early," Amelia said to me. "Liam told me you left the hospital by 4 a.m. this morning." I nodded. "I'm not much of a sleeper, but I could do with a hot cup of coffee," I said. She patted my arm as I passed. "Thank you for keeping bedside watch on Kincaid." "It was nothing, Luna, " I said. She smiled gratefully. "You, go sit down. I will prepare you the cup of coffee." "Thank you," I took my seat and fiddled with my fingers, not knowing what to do. I noticed a little pup glaring at me with wide eyes. "Why is your hair so red?" He blurted. I did not know how to answer that. So I asked him, "Why is your hair brown?" He yanked at his hair and pulled out a patch, and then he looked at his fingers as if he was only just realizing that his hair was brown. Then he shrugged and said, "My father gave me." I smiled. "Go to the playground, Colin," Luna Amelia said to the child as she placed a cup of coffee on the table and took a seat beside me. The child called Colin patted his head with the hand holding his hair as if he attempted to glue them back as he walked away. I took a sip of the coffee. "Thank you for the coffee, Luna." "I spoke to the alpha about your request to join the Delta Warriors." She said. I looked at her expectantly, but not wanting to push. "He said you can take a few training lessons and he would converse with the Delta commanders," she said. "If the commander thinks you will do well, then he would consider it." I smiled. I was contended with "consider it" for now. "He is also thinking of inducting you into this pack," Amelia said. "What do you think? He won't do it if you don't want it. Do you want it? " I nodded. "I never really belonged to my other pack. I never felt as welcome as I feel here. I would like it very much, Luna " I said. "Then it's settled," Amelia said. "I will talk to the Alpha." "What is settled?" Kincaid asked, walking into the kitchen. "Morning, Mum." He ignored my existence entirely. "I did not know you were discharged," The Luna said. "I discharged myself after my bedside nurse sulked away," He muttered. "Now what is settled?"o"Your father wants to induct Andrienne into the pack," Luna Amelia said. She seemed more excited than I was. Kincaid looked at me. His dark gaze raked along my body then he snorted and said, "Might as well. We need an Omega to do the dirty work of the pack." "Kincaid!" The Luna snapped. He smirked. "Her first chore should be to make me a warm cup of coffee, just the way I like it." Luna Amelia placed a hand on my arm to stop me, but I stood up and said, "It is not a problem, Luna. I will make him a warm cup of coffee." "Good," Kincaid said, sitting down. "Two cubes of sugar. A sachet of milk and one cube of ice to cool it down." I smiled as I went to the counter. I poured badly ground coffee seeds into the cup and added extremely hot water and 3 cubes of sugar. Then I added one satchel of milk, stirred it gently, and carried it to the table. I placed it in his front and bowed submissively before I retreated. He had a triumphant gleam in his eyes as he took a long sip of his coffee. His face turned red, but to his credit, he did not spit out the mouthful of coffee. He winced as he swallowed and I was satisfied, knowing that his mouth and internal organs were going to be scalded. "You..." He started to say to me. "Excuse me, Luna," I bowed to Amelia. "I would like to go to the training grounds now. I can't be late for my first lesson." She nodded and I walked away. I could feel Kincaid's hateful glare and steaming face on me as I walked away. I walked out of the packhouse, almost stumbling into Liam again. He was just about to come in, he stepped aside to let me pass. "We are making this a habit," He chuckled. "Has Kincaid woken up?" I nodded. "And, um, he's in a bad mood," I added. "Isn't he always?" Liam asked rhetorically. "I better go see what it is all about." He started to go in. "May I know the way to the training center for Delta warriors please?" I asked. He turned and regarded me strangely. "You want to join the Delta warriors?" When I nodded, a smile tugged on his lips as he gave me directions to the place. According to him, "I can't miss it," but knowing myself and how bad I was in geography while I was in high school, I knew I was going to miss it. I thanked him and walked away. After walking for a few minutes, and dutifully following Liam's direction, I finally came to the training grounds. It was a wide clearing like a field near the woods, there were bleacher chairs on the west side and a small building with a rack of weapons on the south side. The north side led broke into the woods. The bleacher chairs were filled up slightly with other trainees of different sizes. I could not help but notice that the majority of them were men, and amongst the few females, Lucy sat on the highest bleacher. As I approached, all the heads turned to look at me, I saw Lucy smirk. A muscular, thick bearded man walked up to me. "You are the new girl, yes?" "Yes sir. I'm Adrienne." I bowed. He looked at me from head to toe and clucked his tongue. "I am the general commander of the Delta warriors. They call me Adam." He walked with me along me. "Alpha Ezra has told me to test you, and that is what I am going to do. Get on the sparring ground." He gestured at me. I walked to the center of the clearing and looked at all the faces staring at me. Delta Adam accessed all his warriors, looking for the right person to test me until a hand shot up. "If you would, Delta Adam," Lucy's high-pitched voice rang out. "I would like to be her test sparring partner for today." Delta Adam c****d his head. He took one glance at me again and then nodded. "You are both evenly matched in size. I agree." Lucy made her way down to the sparring ground and squared with me. Her eyes gleamed. "I told you I was going to tear you apart." This would be a good time to quit, I told myself. "Bow to each other," Delta Adam called. Lucy bent at the waist, and I followed suit. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Kincaid and Liam walk into the training center and sit on the bleachers. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, I was not going to run away and appear to look weak in front of a pack. Never again. I balled my fists and took a defensive stance.
