I woke up the same as always with Fin bouncing around the room as if he were a toddler who was given an unlimited amount of sugar. I had hardly gotten any sleep last night.
All I could see in my head was that wolves eyes. How blue they were. It clouded my mind and absorbed all of my thoughts. Did wolves even have blue eyes like that? I had never seen them like that, but my knowledge of wolves was slim to none. Never in my life had I seen them in the wild. Only at the zoos I had visited when I was younger.
Zack had came home and was my saving grace. He comforted me with sushi and kind words. The s*x we had was mind-blowing like always and had left me physically exhausted, but my mind wouldn't stop racing. No matter how much I tossed and turned, trying to get comfortable I still felt like I was being watched.
After Fin and I did our morning routine, we setted out on the back deck like we always did on work days. Fin stays close to me though. He would only venture off to use the bathroom then he'd be right back. Last night had my little man scared or he was feeding off of my unsettling energy.
Being outside, even this close to the house had me on edge. It had me constantly looking up to survey my surroundings. I didn't want that beast to surprise attack us when we least expected it.
After a few hours of phone calls and answering emails, Fin and I went inside to find some lunch. I make my way around the kitchen, checking the fridge and the pantry but I come to realize very quickly that I need to go grocery shopping.
I hated going shopping because Fin can't come in to the store and I hate leaving him outside in the car. He hated it even more. So I'd have to leave him at home.
I gave Fin his lunch and went upstairs to get ready for the trip. Throwing on some simple blue jean shorts and a black tank top. I braided my hair to the side. I fill my favorite togo tumbler with some rasberry sweet tea and let Fin outside one last time before I head into town.
"I know buddy. Don't worry, I'll be back in no time and I'll get your favorite cookies." I tell Fin as I shut the door on his crate. I hate this part, where he just gives me those sad puppy dog eyes.
I stand strong though and grab my things before I lock up the house. As I walk to my car, I see a newly familiar black truck pull into my driveway. Jake.
I take a deep breath to settle myself and try not to act like just his presents affect me.
"Good morning!" I tell him as I wave.
He jumps out of his truck as I make my way to my vehicle. "Good morning." He tells me. "Where's your little companion?"
I glance back towards the house and hear Fins little bark threw the walls. "Have to go grocery shopping so he had to stay home." I inform Jake as I try not to look at him for any period of time. "He's not very happy with me right now."
"Can you blame him? What animal wants to be caged up?" Jake tells me in his masculine voice.
My eyes meet his and I can't look away. "I get that but I don't want him to be stuck in the car well I go shopping."
"Then come with me." Jake asks. "I was on my way over here anyways actually." He rubs the back of his neck, once again showing off the muscles in his arms. "I have to go do an estimate at a house and down the block is a dog park. I figured I could show you around, get you out of this house."
I actually really liked that idea and even though Jake makes me nervous with his looks, it was still a nice gesture. "But I really have to get some groceries, my pantry looks sad and empty."
Jake leans against his truck well we speak. "Well I can stay in the truck with Fin well you go shopping. The only thing I have to do today is look at that roof then I'm free. We can go after."
Well I guess he has it all planned out then. I couldn't think of any other reasons to not go. Zack wouldn't mind. I'd text him to let him know what I'll be doing so he won't be surprised if I'm not home if he has an early night at work.
"Okay. Let me go grab Fin. You just made his day by the way." I tell Jake as I turn around to go grab my pup. Before I get to the stairs I turn around and see Jake checking out my ass! He snaps his head up as if he hadn't been caught. "Are you sure your okay with Fin in your truck?" I ask him as if I hadn't caught him red handed.
"Dog hair doesn't bother me." He suppresses a laugh for some reason as if it was some sort of joke.
"If you say so and by the way dont let me catch you checking out my ass again either." I tell him before I turn back around to unlock my door and walk into my house.
Fin spins circles in his crate as I unlock it for him. He jets out like a rocket and goes straight to the front door. I grab his travel bag and he starts jumping around with excitment. Once I open the door, he runs out. He notices Jake and stops in his tracks instantly.
Fin runs back to the front of me as I lock the house back up and walk down the stairs.
"Its okay buddy." I tell him as I confidently walk to the truck. Jake runs around and grabs the door handle before I can. Our hands touch and the electric tingle comes back and shoot up my arm before I could retreat my hand from his.
Fin growls lowly at Jake's skin contact even after I pull my hand away so Jake can grab the door for us.
"Here Fin." I tell my dog as I pat my chest. Fin runs towards me and runs up my body to jump into my arms as I hold him to me.
I smile up at Jake as he seems impressed with our little trick. Being this close to Jake. I hadn't realized how tall he was or how broad his shoulders were. I'm not short being 5'9 but standing next to Jake made me feel the tiniest I've ever felt in my life. He had to of been atleast 6'5.
Fin licks my face and I turn my attention away from Jake's mesmerizing eyes and climb into the tall truck. Luckily he had step sides for me to use. Fin isn't exactly as lite as he looks and he's always so squirmy whenever I hold him.
"You in there?" Jake asks before he shuts the door.
I subconsciously bite my bottom lip and nod at him. He was very intimidating and looking at him only makes me more nervous. More conscious of myself and how I appear to him.
It was all very silly though. Jake is my neighbor just being nice and I'm married to Zack. I love Zack and he's been my best friend for years but why did I feel such a pull to Jake?
I wouldn't have ever done this back in the city. Go on a day trip with a new neighbor, people around there avoided you like the plauge but Jake was so friendly. So welcoming.
Jake closes my door and walks around the big truck. He climbs in effortlessly and cranks it up. The engine sounds mean and rugged. The interior was as black as the outside and I actually really liked it. The smell of masculine man filled the truck and it soothed me. What was wrong with me? The smell of another man is bringing me comfort. Why doesn't Zacks natural scent do that for me but Jake's does?
"Okay so I can drop you off at the dog park, it's like half a block away from the house I have to look at. I shouldn't be longer than an hour." Jake tells me as we pull onto the main road.
Fin is in my lap and staring Jake down. I pet his back in hopes to settle him. He normally warms right up to people but around Jake, he's on high alert.
"That sounds good. Have you ever gone to this dog park?" I ask him trying to make conversation.
Jake let's out a small chuckle. "I've never had a reason to before but I drive past it all the time. Good amount of space and with it being midday, no one's probably there. There's a big fence around it so you can let Fin off leash and not have to worry as much."
I set Fin down on the floor board and I pull my phone out of my purse to message Zack. Maybe a distraction is what I'm needing right now.
"That sounds great. Maybe I can ware him out enough that he'll nap well I'm in the store." I tell him with wishful thinking. I know my dog and he's going to loose his butt feathers when I leave him in the truck with Jake but maybe it's what he needs. I have full confidence in Jake to handle my little dog though.
