Samantha
I feel a tiny set of paws stab into my stomach as Fin, my dog jumps on me to tell me he needs to go outside. I open my eyes to see his face extremely close to mine. Fin licks my nose and jumps off the bed, spinning circles by the bedroom door.
"Okay. Okay." I tell him as I throw off the covers and yawn. The little dog let's out an impatient little bark as I stand up and stretch. He can be so moody in the mornings.
I open the door and Fin takes off down the hall to only stop and stare at me again. My little watch dog. He sits and waits wigging his little nub he calls a tail.
He takes off down the stairs like a freight train and slides into the foyer on the hardwood floors. "Calm down, your going to hurt yourself." I scold him
When we finally make it to the back door and Fin flyes across the yard to lift a leg on his favorite tree. I leave him outside for a few minutes as I head in to make myself some ice coffee.
Once my coffees done and my creamer is added, I gather up my computer and phone so I can do my morning routine of sitting out on the porch well I work. Fin runs around and sun bathes well I type away.
Zack's already left the house for the day well I get to work from home. I own a dog training facility, but now I just over see the books and orders. I have a good group of employees that run it. We've added on grooming recently that has taken off.
Well my husband Zack has focused on his education and job, I had nothing better to do than the same. I did schooling for dog training and business management, with a small starter fund from Zack's parents, I opened the dog training company and it's gone great since.
My right-hand lady Stella lives in the city and over sees the day to day well I deal with all the things she doesn't want to do, like the paperwork and orders.
Every week she sends me a list of things, I order them and send everyone their paychecks. Unfortunately, I do also deal with all the unhappy customers when we do have them, which isn't often. We have a really good reputation that we uphold.
I answer a few emails and place a grooming order before I sit back and watch Fin. He's a little over a year old and he is truly my baby. He goes everywhere with me and keeps me company when I need it the most. He's the child I'll never be able to bare.
I purchased him when he was only 2 weeks old. I went to a breeder nearby and picked him out, visited him every week till he was able to leave his mother. We have a great connection, and I couldn't ask for a better friend.
The nights that Zack stays in the city, Fin sleeps with me and we lay in bed watching movies, sharing snacks. I talk to him and he just simply listens. He curls up next to me and I pet him, calming me and comforting him. This house would be lonely if I didn't have him around.
I set up my life so once we did have it all, I could be at home with our children. I could spend every moment with them. Teaching them, playing, caring for them. From what the doctors have said, that will never happen. Zack's and I's bodies aren't ment to reproduce with each other. I could have chosen any man but I chose him, the one I would never have children with. If I didn't love him so much, this wouldn't be an issue but it was.
Zack is my rock. We have went threw everything together. My father dying, my sisters drug abuse. My mothers over baring personality and open mouthed opinions. It was hell. That's why we moved away from all of it.
All the nights I'd call Zack after one of my mothers' outbursts, we'd had enough. He pulled up in his suv and we left. He had just finished college and was starting a new job. We used our savings to move into a little apartment in the city and stayed away at all costs other than to see his parents.
Zack was an only child and his parents loved to travel so they never minded us moving. They had always encouraged us. To live together. to get married, to open the business, even to have kids and to move out here. Zack's mother Molly, has always been more like a mother to me than my own. Growing up in the same small town, everyone had pretty much grown up together. Zack and I had been best friends before we decided to date.
I was snapped out of my Fin-watching gaze when he jumped up and I heard truck tires crunching on my gravel driveway.
"Fin. Here." I command my dog and he comes straight to my side and looks up at me, waiting for the next command.
We walk around the deck to see a big four door black truck in the driveway. Fin stands at my side as we wait for the person to come out.
The driverside door opens and Fin let's out a low growl as he sits directly infront of me. Showing off his natural protectivness towards any potential threat towards me.
The person shuts the door and the most perfect looking man meets my eyes. His defined jaw line is covered in a 5 o'clock shadow beard, his brown hair is shaggy but short and his eyes are the lightest blue I've ever seen.
He smiles bright at me and walks around the truck to reveal a very muscular body that is covered by blue jeans and a black shirt that hung off of him amazingly.
"C-can I help you?" I stutter out. As he walks closer. Fin stands and let's out a slightly louder growl. I snap my fingers at him and he sits back down quietly.
The man stops in his tracks and glances between the two of us, watching my dogs reactions.
"I don't mean to bother you but I'm Jake. One of your neighbors. I've been out of town the last few weeks and I noticed the for sale was out of the yard. Figured I'd come introduce myself." He tells me in a deep masculine voice. Jake rubs the back of his neck and I watch as his arm muscles stretch the material of the shirt fabric.
"Oh, well it's nice to meet you." I tell him awkwardly. I never know how to act around attractive people and he was model material. Zack was super attractive but in the boy next door type of way with his blonde hair and brown puppy dog eyes but Jake screamed Man.
Jake takes a few steps towards me with his hand extended but Fin stands and takes a step towards him as well before I could react. Jake glares at the dog and to my surprise Fin backs down to sit in front of me again. I take Jake's hand gently but as soon as our skin touches, my body feels tingly all over starting with my hand.
I instantly pull away and notice that Jake now wears a sexy smirk on his lips.
"Whats your name?" He asks me
I'm dumbfounded as I hold the hand he touched just moments ago. What was that? "S-samantha but everyone just calls me Sam." I finally answer him.
"Samantha" He says slowly, liking the way he says my name "Classic name. I like it."
"Thank you." I tell him as my cheeks heat up. I look down at Fin to avoid him from seeing me blush. The truth was that I had always hated my name. I never felt like it suit me until Jake had spoke it.
"And whose your friend?" Jake asks as he looks down at Fin too.
"This is Fin." I tell him as Fin eyes the man down as he approaches him.
Jake let's him sniff his hand before petting him but Fin let's out a low growl at the man.
"Manners Finley." I tell him and he stops growling and let's Jake pet him.
"Good boy." I tell my dog. Ever experience is a good learning opportunity for dogs.
"Good owner." Jake states.
"Its kind of my job to be." I tell him.
"To be a professional dog owner?" He teases me as he leans against the porch railing.
"Im a professional dog trainer." I tell him in a matter of fact tone. I love what I do and the business I own.
Oh, well that's not what I was expecting." He told me.
I smirk at him. No one thinks that's what I do. Everyone thinks I just sit at home because my husband has a really good job. I paid most of the bills as he climbed the ladder. We worked together to make it this far. "Well what did you expect then?" I was curious.
I watched as Jake nibbled on his lip as
he thought about a good answer. My mind instantly went to how plump they look. If their soft or rough.
"Author." He tells me.
"What?" I ask, thinking about his lips made me forget about everything else.
"What I can see you being." Jake explains.
I let out a small giggle. "What kind of author?" I cross my arms over my chest, challenging him.
"Children's Author." Jake responds.
Not what I was expecting but it did hit a soft spot. I could feel my smile fall just a little but I quickly recovered. Hiding how I really feel about that topic.
"Nope. I suck at spelling. Kids would learn how to not spell words correctly if they read my books." I smile at him.
"Well lucky for you, I'm a great speller. If you ever need someone to spell check anything for you, I'm two houses down on the left." He informs me well sliding down the porch railing so he's straight across from me. Fin sits in the middle of us, eyeing Jake down. Watching his every move and analyzing his behaviors.
"I will for sure keep that in mind. What do you do?" I ask. "If you don't mind me asking that is." My mother use to yell at me and call me stupid for asking questions. Over time I've learned how to ask questions in better ways and with more manners.
"I have my own roofing company." Jake tells me.
b I c**k my head a little to the side and examine him a little bit. "You look like the roofer type."
Jake let's out a laugh and I swear it was like music. What was this man doing to me. "How do you figure?"
Your body, the way your legs look in those jeans, the work boots, the rough hands, the masculine ora that just radiates off of you. I think all of those answers but they wouldn't be appropriate to say to a complete stranger who isn't my husband. "You just looks like someone who does a very manual labor like job." There. That's better I tell myself.
"What the hell does that mean?" He laughs at me. I love the dimples that appears when he smiles. Stop it Samantha! I scold myself.
"Uhm, I guess it means like you do manual labor. Roofing, Flooring, Remodeling. Stuff like that." I tell him, hoping the answer works and he doesn't think I'm trying to say he's completely toned and his bodies amazing. "You don't look like the cubical type." Thats better.
Jake gives me the sexiest smirk I have ever seen on a man. The dimples on display, blue eyes shining and his bangs perfectly across his forehead a little. "Ah, I gotcha."
And now I know that he knows how good his body looks. Good going.
Fin barks at Jake as he leans forward a little closer to me, instantly send Jake back to his current spot. He leans forward instead with his hands still on the railing. "So I look like I work out. Is what your saying." His voice is low and has me instantly tongue tied.
"Um. I guess." I studder out looking anywhere but at him. I'm married. Knock it off. He is not Zach, your husband.
"What kind of dog is he?" Jake asks leaning back on the railing settling his arms across his chest seeming pleased by my reaction. I on the other hand was just happy for the topic change.
"Miniture Australian Shepard." I inform him.
"Never heard of them." He tells me.
"Are you not a dog person?"
"I don't mind them, they just don't seem to like me much."
That's weird. "Well most dogs will sense a dangerous person and inform their masters." I tell him. "You must be a dangerous person then." I tease.
