Maya’s POV I woke up early in the small cabin. The sun was just coming up. The little girl slept next to Sarah on the old couch. Her small hand held my sister’s shirt. I sat by the window and watched them. My heart felt full but heavy at the same time. My real sister was back. The child was safe for now. The money, the secrets. Everything felt like it could break at any moment. I thought, I gave so much of myself to survive. Now I have to be strong for this little girl. She did not ask for any of this pain. Liam came from the kitchen with hot tea. He gave me a cup. His eyes looked tired but kind. “You did not sleep much,” he said softly. I shook my head. “I keep thinking about the medicine. The doctor said it is special. If we do not get it soon the girl could get sick like Sarah did.”
