Maya’s POV
I could not stop shaking after seeing the video of Chloe tied to a chair. Even though Mr Havisham is her father, the blackmailers were using her to scare me. Liam held me tight on the bed but my mind would not calm down. Inside my head I thought, Chloe is innocent. She loves her dad. She does not know what kind of monster he really is. If something bad happens to her because of me I will never forgive myself.
Liam kissed my shoulder softly. “They are probably bluffing about hurting Chloe. She is his daughter. But we cannot take any risk. We go tomorrow with a plan.”
I nodded but fear sat heavy in my stomach like a big rock. We tried to sleep but I kept waking up from bad dreams. In the morning I went to work like normal. My legs felt weak the whole way.
