Maya’s POV
I sat on the floor next to the little girl. Her small body felt hot under my hand. She breathed fast and weak. The boy lay beside her. His face looked pale. They both needed the medicine soon. I felt scared. My hands shook as I gave them water.
Sarah knelt beside me. Her eyes were full of tears. “Maya, the medicine is not working. The fever is getting worse. What do we do?”
I looked at her. “We find the real medicine. Victoria lied to us. The doctor must have the good one.”
Chloe sat on the other side. She held the boy’s hand. “My father started all this. I feel so bad. Let me help. I can go to the city and sell my things. We need money fast.”
Liam stood by the window. He watched the trees outside. “We cannot send anyone alone. Julian and Victoria are still looking for us.
