Chapter six

Sophia The party wasn’t for another week and that meant I had to find a dress. My anger towards the alpha was less now but I still wanted my revenge on him. Possibly killing him seemed maybe too drastic, as he wouldn’t exactly get to feel the same pain, I had by losing my brother and if he so happened to find his mate at the party killing them wasn’t an option either. No matter how mad you were touching someone else’s mate was one of the worst offense. I looked in the mirror. The bags under my eyes seemed larger and darker than the day before. I needed to seriously up my game if I was going to look good for this meeting. And I had to. I represented my pack and our power. I might look cute and adorable, but I also knew I was far from, and the Alpha needed to know and take me seriously.   First thing on my list today was to go for a run. My warriors usually patrolled the boarders however since the invitation seemed too good to be true, I wanted to make a few checks myself. Besides I needed the exercise and so did my Beta. I didn’t exactly know how react after the day in my office with him, but at the same time there wasn’t the thing he hadn’t caught me doing. Worst thing he has ever done come to think of it was when I was 13 and I had gotten my wolf. He called me cute which to some girls was a nice thing, but he knew very well I did not want that from my brother’s friends.   My brother… I pushed the thought of him back as I went looking in my closet for a training bra, leggings and a holder for my phone and clothes. Who was to say I wouldn’t need to change into my wolf and let her out a little too? I was 5’7’’ but sometimes people acted like I was 5 feet. They forgot I was their Alpha. I tried my best to remove the cuteness from my looks but when I was alone in my room, I couldn’t help it. I was a girl, and I did like to act like it sometimes. However, it was a weakness I couldn’t afford to show. Some saw me as weak for being a girl, when I was obviously stronger than them for my Alpha blood and my intelligence.   After a final look in the mirror, I went downstairs to the lounge in the Pack House. I didn’t need my own house as my parents had. I wanted my pack to know me, or at least the part of me I wanted them to know.   “Hey George” I said smiling as I went to the kitchen for a quick apple. “Alpha Sophia, going for a jog?” he asked smiling back at me. He was one of the older wolves and the best Chef’s I had ever had the honour of cooking food for me. He was also one of the only ones that I allowed to talk to me the same way he always had. He didn’t judge me in any way.   “As a matter of fact, I am. Just waiting for Adam to come join me” I replied back.   “Anything going on between the two of you?” He asked me with a side smirk. I couldn’t help but blush a little. I didn’t exactly have feelings for him, and I wasn’t going to date my second in command. I trusted him with my life, but that was it. I couldn’t afford to have any emotions towards him like that.   “No, no. I-… I just like him as my best friend. Besides how would it look that I start having a thing with my Beta? People would start to think he makes the decisions around here.” I continued trying to hide the blush that had started to make my whole face red.   “Sophia,” He chuckled a bit. “I think everyone here knows exactly who makes the rules, way before your late brother, and your fathers’ rule. You basically had everyone wrapped around your finger”   I couldn’t help but smile at that. He was like a second parent to everyone in the house. And maybe he believed what he was saying, but I knew better. I had seen how my own mother tried to push me down and hold me back for years, yet I couldn’t get myself to throw her out. She loved me and knew too much.   “Thank you” I replied as Adam came to the door. He looked ready for the run in a big hoodie and some trousers.   “Ready?” I asked smiling, as I took the last bite, or rather first bite of the apple.   “Ready when you are” he smiled back leaving no trace of what had happened earlier.   Lucas Excitement started to fill every cell in my body as I looked at the acceptance letters for my party. I might have seemed crazy thinking no one wanted to join. We weren’t the most terrifying pack, but we weren’t far from either due to my father. He had seemed to make it his life mission to seem strong, and he was always putting that pressure on me. So, when I saw that Silver Moon had accepted, I was over the moon. They were the closest pack to us, and I simply needed to find peace. It had been four years since they lost the son of their Alpha. By my hand.   It was my first time in battle, and I had no idea what I was doing. I barely even remember why we went into that, but I would have done everything had my father asked. Sometimes I think of how bad that was.   A knock came to the door taking me out of my thoughts and I looked up to find Kyle in the door with another stack of papers, although they seemed more like bills and reports from the patrols. We had had a couple of rogues attacking our boarders, at least it that was the reports coming back.   “Guess it’s your turn to read some of all these documents!” I cheekily proclaimed towards Kyle. Paperwork was my nightmare.   “Yeah, this seems like a lot, and erm. How about you go for a run? You look kind of weak, mate” Kyle shot back at me, and I couldn’t help but laugh.   “Nah man, I’m good. But have you happened to see where Kristine is? She was supposed to bring me some coffee thirty minutes ago” I exhaled. She was one of the girls that wanted to help around here. She wasn’t any older than 13 but she would rather be at the pack house than at home. I never quite understood why and allowed it.   “I think I saw her out in the garden with some of the other children “, Kyle simply replied.   “Guess I will get it myself” I smiled.   “Maybe a shower too, you know the party is the day after tomorrow, perhaps sleep as well, Alpha” Kyle reminded me. I looked at my phone for the time. Apparently, the days had been running away from me.   Without having to say anything Kyle seemed to know just what I needed.   “I can take this go on and get sleep. Do you even know what to wear yet?”   “Andrea has put some out for me” I noted about the personal designer I had at my disposal. I was terrible when it came to clothes, and I was supposed to look very presentable for when I met my mate. I had no plans of giving her any reason to reject me.   “Just sleep already” Kyle exclaimed pulling me from my chair and taking a seat himself. How was I ever going to manage without him? He was my best friend and knew me all too well.   "You know, you can never leave me. You know way too much mate" I finished laughing as I walked out the door and up to my room. I took one look in the mirror and got reminded of how I should most likely shave as to not look like a hobo. There was no reason not to try my best and not a lot of women, especially from my pack, seemed to like men with a beard.
