Ralph was leaning against a flagpole outside the main administration building, hands in his pockets and notebook tucked beneath his arm. “Think he’ll make it?” I asked as we walked to the rental car. He shrugged. “It’s out of our hands now, like most things.” Ralph had spoken with Roger while waiting for me to emerge from the prison.
