“Was that your only grenade?” Kip asked instead, standing by the side of the road. “I’ve got one last trick,” Talisker replied, “Have you ever heard of a paralysing floor?” When Widdershins was a mile from Maisy, he looked back for the first time to see who was with him. He saw twelve bloodstained and exhausted Torchlights on the road with him. Beyond them he could see about two hundred and fifty Reclaimers starting towards them, having dispensed with the last of the Torchlights who had dug in near Maisy. Surveying the land ahead he could make out the peaks of the cliffs and knew they were nearly at the canyon. He spurred his horse on, a plan for a last ditch defence forming in his mind.
