The early morning light crept in thin and gray through the curtains, but Loretta’s eyes stayed shut tight, her body curled into herself beneath the layers of her blanket. She couldn't sleep well after they got back home last night. She had gone straight to her room without a word, closing the door on him. She knew he would want answers. She knew that look he got when his brain was full of questions and he was too stubborn to let them go. But she wasn’t ready. She would never be ready. She didn’t want to open her eyes.
