Unveiling

"Seraphina, we can escape together. He doesn't understand you like I do. Nor can he please or love you in the way that I can," Lucius begged with tears in his eyes. His constant change in emotion was giving me a headache. I sighed, "Lucius, you don't understand. There's more to this than meets the eye." He brought me closer his hands now heading towards my bottom. "Seraphina, I know you feel it too. This life is a facade. You deserve something real. I can prove to you how good I can make you feel. Right now-" I pushed him away and started yelling. "Lucius! He isn't who you think he is. In fact, she isn't a 'he' at all." All of this gave me flashbacks to my talk with Alistair. I hated having to do this again. His eyes widened in surprise, a mix of confusion and curiosity playing on his face. "What do you mean?" "That is a woman. The child, she's not my biological daughter. It's all a charade, a means to blend into this town." Lucius, stunned by the revelation, took a step back. "But why, Seraphina? Why go to such lengths?" "That's what I thought too." Alistair mumbled. I ignored him and looked back at Lucius. "They're very important to me and I care about them. We did anything we could to make life easier." He struggled to comprehend the depth of my hidden reality. "And what about us?" "This life is my reality now. I can't abandon the family I've built." His initial shock gave way to an infectious smile that spread across his face like sunlight breaking through storm clouds. He pulled me into a tight embrace, his happiness palpable. "Seraphina, you have no idea how relieved I am to hear that," he exclaimed, his voice a mix of joy and relief. "I couldn't bear the thought of losing you to someone else." His warm embrace was accompanied by kisses on my forehead and cheeks, expressions of his genuine happiness. However, beneath the surface, a lingering anger simmered within me. I couldn't overlook the scene he had just caused, especially the fear it had instilled in May. "L-Lucius. No." I stammered, pushing him away. His joy faded, replaced by a shadow of remorse. "Seraphina, I... I. Are you angry with me?" My frustration bubbled to the surface. "Of course I am. You were out of control. It's not fair to put them through such an ordeal." Regret etched across his face, and he nodded solemnly. "You're right, Seraphina. I let my emotions get the best of me, and I'm truly sorry, I'll make it up to you." "Don't be sorry. Just don't do it." I reprimanded him, and he frowned like a sad puppy. As he spoke, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of emotions—relief he calmed down and frustration at the unnecessary chaos he had caused. My patience had worn thin, and I couldn't allow them to jeopardize the fragile equilibrium we had established – Luca, May, and I, a tightly knit trio. I grabbed Lucius by the jaw and brought him down to my eye level. "Enough is enough," I declared, my voice cutting through the charged atmosphere. "I won't tolerate any more of this animosity. Luca and May are part of my life now, and that's not negotiable. Do you both hear me?" Alistair's eyes flickered towards me, but I raised a hand, silencing any retort he might have been formulating. "Listen carefully," I continued, my tone unwavering. "We're a package deal. Luca and May are my family, and if you want a place in my life, you have to accept them. Threats and attempts to tear us apart won't be tolerated." Lucius shifted uncomfortably, exchanging a quick glance with Alistair. I could sense their hesitation, their struggle to reconcile with the reality I presented. Yet, I wasn't about to back down. Luca and May were the center of my world, and I'd protect them at any cost. "This isn't a negotiation," I emphasized, my gaze unwavering. "It's a declaration. Cross the line, and me running away will be the last thing you have to worry about." There was a heavy silence, my words lingering. I could see the weight of my conviction settling in their minds. I was done with compromises and half-hearted acceptance. Luca and May deserved more – they deserved unwavering commitment and a family unyielding in its love and protection. Lucius grabbed my hand and kissed my palm tenderly. "Of course my love. Anything you wish." My heart raced as Lucius and Alistair both enveloped me in a tight embrace, their warmth surrounding me. When Lucius finally pulled away, his eyes met mine, then looked up at Alistair, then his expression twisted into a scowl. "And you! You asshole! You deliberately led me astray!" Lucius's voice erupted with anger, his frustration palpable. Alistair held onto me from behind and only shrugged his shoulders. "Lucius, what did we just talk about?" I asked, my voice calm but firm. Lucius turned his piercing gaze towards me, and I saw a storm brewing in his eyes. "But this is all his fault Sera. It really is!" Lucius spat the words out, his frustration evident in every syllable. "Lucius!" I spoke with a tone a mother would use with her child. He smacked his lips, sighed, and grabbed my hands. "I'm sorry Seraphina. Please don't hate me. I'm really trying." I sighed. "I understand your frustration but you both can talk it out privately, and calmly some other time." I turned to Alistair expecting an answer. He had a humorous smile on his face like it was all hilarious. He nodded at me and turned his smile towards Lucius. Lucius only glared back. "So what now, Sera?" Alistair finally spoke. "Is he going to stay with us too? I say we don't let him for how he was acting earlier. Who knows when he will explode?" "Shut up!" Lucius whisper yelled. I sighed even harder now rubbing my temples to alleviate my head ache. "I have to talk to Luca again. It's their house too."
