His eyes pleaded with me, his voice trembled as he begged for me to come back to him. But I couldn't, not after all the work I had put into building this new life, this new family that had become my world.
"Please, Seraphina, I can't live without you," Alistair implored, his voice cracking with desperation.
My resolve was unyielding. I had moved on, and I couldn't let myself be swayed by his emotions.
"I'm sorry, Alistair," I said, my voice firm but full of regret. "I can't go back. I've worked hard to build a life for myself and the family I've come to cherish. I can't risk losing it all. It may seem like not much to you but it's mine. I made this."
Alistair's shoulders slumped, and he looked defeated. But then, he asked, "Can I at least stay with you? Just to be near you, please? I apologize for what I said. I didn't mean to offend you, I just want you with me."
I hesitated for a moment, torn between my past and my present. Alistair had been a significant part of my life once, and it was difficult to turn him away completely. But I couldn't jeopardize the happiness I had found.
"I need to talk to Luca," I replied cautiously, not wanting to give him false hope.
I couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt. The decision ahead would not be an easy one. The only reason I'm even thinking about this, is because of how much I actually missed him, to my disbelief. Him begging and pleading stirred my heart and warmed my insides. He was always so beautiful, but he was especially breathtaking today.
"Stay here. I'm gonna talk to her and I'll be back." I looked at him to see him nod in agreement.
I approached the front door with a sense of unease, my heart pounding in my chest. I knew it was time to have a serious conversation with Luca about Alistair, and whether he should stay with us. The weight of this decision pressed down on me, and I could feel the nervous knots forming in my stomach.
As I stepped inside our cozy living room, Luca looked up, her hazel eyes filled with curiosity and concern. "What's going on Em?"
Her calm presence provided some comfort amidst the brewing storm of emotions. I sat down and explained the entire situation. Her eyes widened more and more as the story progressed.
"And now he is asking. No. He's begging to stay with me." I explained, my voice steady. "Look honestly I don't really think he would take no for an answer. I still need your input though. It affects both of us."
"Can he be trusted around us? Around May?" She asked concerned.
"I had never seen him harm anyone honestly. Especially innocents. But I wouldn't ask if I knew he was a danger." I sighed.
Luca reached for my hand, her touch reassuring. "I trust you," she said softly. "I want to support your decision. If you believe Alistair deserves a chance, then I'm willing to give it a try, as long as he helps around the house and respects our boundaries."
"Thank you, Luca," I said with a grateful smile. "I'll talk to Alistair and make it clear that this chance comes with responsibilities. If he's willing to contribute and respect our boundaries, then he can stay with us."
We shared a reassuring smile, knowing that the path ahead wouldn't be without challenges, but with trust, open communication, and mutual support, we were determined to make the best decision for our little family. Even ones that keep a dangerous man happy.
Together, we made our way to the front door, and I took a deep breath to steady my nerves. Alistair was waiting outside, his face a mix of anxiety and determination.
Luca gave me a reassuring glance, but we both knew that Alistair wouldn't take "no" for an answer. We stepped outside, the cool evening air providing some relief from the tension in the room.
I looked into Alistair's eyes, feeling torn. "Alistair, you know it's complicated."
I exchanged another glance with Luca, who nodded in agreement. We had to find a compromise. "But there are conditions. We'll figure out a way for all of us to coexist, but it won't be easy-"
Alistair's face lit up with hope, and he nodded eagerly. "I'll do whatever it takes, Seraphina. I just want to be with you."
I then looked at Luca who nodded at me and I then nodded at Alistair. This was all the confirmation he needed apparently because, he then happily lifted me off my feet into an embrace.
I couldn't help but wonder how this complicated relationship would unfold. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but if we were all willing to make sacrifices and compromises, maybe, just maybe, we could find a way to make it work.
I led Alistair inside our home. The creaky wooden floors welcomed us as we stepped through the doorway, a portal to the world he was about to become a part of. With a sigh of relief, I closed the door behind us, shutting out the chill of the autumn night.
Turning to face Alistair, I took a deep breath and began to explain the rules of living with us. "Alistair," I said, my voice steady, "there are a few boundaries and secrets you need to be aware of while you're here. And we'd appreciate your respect for them."
His eyes widened with curiosity and a touch of apprehension. "Of course, Seraphina," he replied, his tone sincere. "Anything you wish.
I continued, "Firstly, my name is Emily. That is what everyone knows me by. Luca is my husband and May is our daughter. "
Alistair nodded, though his eyes hardened at me calling Luca my husband. "I understand."
"Good," I said, my shoulders relaxing. "Secondly, you will help around the house with anything we need. Like chores and such."
As I listed our customs and house rules, Alistair listened attentively. Then, as the conversation turned to sleeping arrangements, he politely smiled and said, "Oh I can just sleep with you in your room."
This made me and Luca look at each other in disbelief. "Um. No we can find-"
"Everyone else has their own room which I assume they don't want to give up. And I am definitely not sleeping on the couch." He spoke in a snobby tone. Of course. "Also it's not anything new that we sleep in the same bed."
I sighed with my hands over my face. He was making good points but I don't want things to be like old times. What if it confuses May about why a man is sleeping in my room? Though, I also didn't want to take away anything from Luca or May. The easier this is on them the better.
"I can just move in with May," Luca offered ,"I'll get my stuff and-"
"No Luca it's fine. I have the biggest room anyway. He and I can share."
I gave Luca a reassuring and thankful smile. She was always the first to offer help in any way. I'm very grateful for her.
