A dinner to remember

1290 Words
The scent of sizzling steak filled the air as I busily worked in the kitchen. The tantalizing aroma of spices and seared meat wafted through the house, creating an atmosphere of warmth and anticipation. As I flipped the steaks on the sizzling hot pan, Alistair came up behind me and put his arms around my waist. I tried to ignore him but his face was so close to my neck his breath gave me goosebumps. "Alistair can you please move? I'm making dinner and I don't want to burn you." He placed his lips gently on my neck before moving away. With a final sizzle, I removed the steaks from the pan, their juices dripping onto the plates. Everyone then came in and sat down for dinner including Alistair. It seemed he quite enjoyed eating the meals I prepared, even though he didn't always eat food back at the castle. The flickering candlelight illuminated his sharp features, and I couldn't help but be captivated by the way his eyes lingered on the meal before him. Taking a bite, Alistair savored the flavors. His eyes met mine, and a genuine smile spread across his face. "Seraphina, this is exquisite as always. I love your cooking." "Me too, Mommy!" May chimed in, enjoying her bite size pieces. My heart swelled with pride and joy. As we shared the meal together, laughter and conversation flowed freely, creating a relaxing atmosphere. I sensed a sudden shift in the air, and Alistair's gaze grew intense. He stopped mid-bite, his sharp senses honed in on something beyond the joyous chatter. I was about to ask him what was wrong when a sharp knock echoed through the room, cutting through the ambient noise. Curiosity tinged with a hint of worry etched across my face as I excused myself from the table. The others continued their merriment, unaware of the sudden tension that gripped Alistair and me. I made my way to the door, a mix of apprehension and anticipation swirling within me. Evan hadn't came by in a while, and I half-expected him to be standing on the other side. As I swung the door open, my eyes widened with surprise. It wasn't Evan who stood there but Lucius. Lucius! His presence sent a shiver down my spine, the air seemed to thicken, and I found myself momentarily speechless. "Seraphina," he gasped my name with a familiarity that stirred conflicting emotions within me. Lucius, with his penetrating emerald gaze and his dark raven hair, had a way of unsettling even the most composed. Alistair's earlier reaction echoed in my mind, I was now speechless and frozen in time, as Lucius pulled me into his embrace. Before I could comprehend the situation, Luca emerged from the dining table, concern etched across her face. Behind him, May peeked out with innocent curiosity. They were both now in Lucius' view. Lucius, oblivious to the family I had built in the years since we parted ways, locked eyes with me and shifted to them back and forth. His expression twisted into a storm of emotions—anger, longing, and possessiveness. It was as if the mere existence of Luca and May shattered the illusion of a world where only he and I existed. "Who's this!?" Lucius demanded, his tone sharp and accusatory. My heart sank as his features contorted with jealousy. "Seraphina," he hissed, the name rolling off his tongue with a blend of familiarity and resentment. "After all this time I spent looking for you, this is what you've done?" His gaze shifted to Luca, an unwitting participant in a confrontation she never asked for. "Lucius, please," I implored trying to keep my voice steady despite the fear gripping my chest. Dealing with Alistair being emotional and angry was one thing. He was easier to talk to and reason with. Lucius was not. Especially when angry. His laughter was bitter, echoing through the quiet night. "Please what? Who is this human man?" His gaze flickered to Luca, who looked bewildered and uneasy. The air around us grew heavy with tension, and I struggled to find the right words. "Lucius, you need to understand. Just calm down and we can-" His eyes bore into mine, searching for a hint of falsehood, now taking a step inside "Calm down? You were mine. You are supposed to be mine for eternity." I took a step back, placing myself between Lucius and my family. Luca then reached for her sword. He bared his fangs, a predatory glint in his eyes. "You think this mortal can protect you like I can?" "Mommy?" May spoke timidly, holding my hand. This caught Lucius' attention. Because he looked more taken a back and even gasped. "Wh- Mommy!? You have a child!?" He exclaimed. And in his usual dramatic fashion he gripped his chest and fell to his kness. As I reached out to Lucius and try to reason with him, Alistair then scoffed, bringing all of our attention to him. Lucius's eyes widened in shock as they fell upon Alistair. "Alistair?" he exclaimed, his voice a mixture of disbelief and anger. "What the hell are you doing here!?" "We were trying to have a nice meal." Alistair answered calmy taking another bite of his food. Lucius's gaze shifted from me to Alistair, his expression contorting with a mix of astonishment and rage. "Dinner?" he seethed. "You asshole! I ought to kill you right now. How could you keep this from me?" Alistair, looked from Lucius to me, but said nothing. Lucius's anger intensified, fueled by the realization that Alistair was here too. "You've been hiding from me, and he was here too!?" he accused now standing, his voice laced with bitterness. I grabbed his shoulders and tried to push him out of the door. "Lucius! You're scaring the child, if you want to talk we have to do so outside. Alistair? Help me." "Is that really the only thing you're worried about?" He yelled still looking at Alistair with rage. Alistair said nothing but helped me as I asked while Lucius struggled. The night air hung heavy with tension as Alistair and I led Lucius outside, away from the prying eyes of my family. The moonlight cast an ethereal glow on his attractive features, revealing the storm of emotions swirling within him. His eyes, now burned with anger and resentment. "Seraphina," Lucius hissed my name through gritted teeth, "How could you bring me out here like some animal?" Alistair stood by my side, a silent pillar of support. "You are acting like one Lucius. We need to talk." I huffed out of breath. Lucius paced, his movements predatory, as if he could pounce at any moment. "Talk? There's nothing left to discuss. You abandoned everything we could have been." I looked to Alistair to see his bored face, looking at his nails, like he would rather be anywhere else but here. I squared my shoulders, facing him with a steel resolve. "Lucius, You need to let go of the past." His eyes bore into mine, and I could feel the weight of our shared history. "Let go? You think I can simply let go of years of love and shared existence?" I took a deep breath, trying to find the right words to bridge the gap between us. "Lucius, I don't deny our history, but I've chosen a different path. " His eyes flickered with a mix of sorrow and fury. "Different path? Was I not enough for you? You could have had this with me. I have offered it to you and you denied it." Lucius started to step closer and grab my hands. I let him though because making him angrier was not the right move.
