Festival

On the day of the festival, I woke up with a sense of anticipation that filled the room. The sun's early rays streamed in, warming my face, and I knew it was the day we had been waiting for. It was time to get ready for the festivities. We had taken our time choosing our outfits, ensuring they were perfect for the occasion. My dress was a light shade of blue, and it was knee length. May, on the other hand, had selected a flowing, floral-print dress that was as bright and cheerful as her personality. I braided her hair into a crown of flowers, which suited her perfectly. As we finished getting ready, we exchanged excited glances and compliments. "You look pretty, Mommy," May said, her eyes filled with admiration. I couldn't help but return the sentiment with a smile, "And you, my dear, are the epitome of beauty." I grabbed her tiny hand, and as we walked towards the vibrant celebration, we couldn't help but feel how excited she was. Hand in hand, we were prepared to embrace the day and make lasting memories at the festival. The festival grounds were a whirlwind of activity and color, with lively music filling the air. Stalls selling candied apples, handcrafted trinkets, and fragrant flowers lined the cobblestone streets, while performers in elaborate costumes entertained the crowd. As we strolled through the enchanting fair, May's little hand tightly gripped mine, eager to explore every nook and cranny. We started our day by watching the puppet show, which had May enthralled. Her giggles and gasps of wonder were music to my ears. We shared a bag of sugary cotton candy and took a leisurely ride on the ornate carousel, the painted horses twirling in joyous circles. As we ventured further into the festival, May's eyes widened as she spotted her dearest friend, Lily, from the neighboring cottage. With a bright smile and a quick hug, May left my side to join her playmate, their laughter and excited chatter instantly melding into the festival's lively symphony. I watched from a distance, the warmth of the sun on my face, as May and Lily scampered off to explore the games and activities together. It was a precious sight. Once a few minutes turned to an hour I figured she's had enough fun and we needed to get ready to go home. But when I turned to find her, she was nowhere in sight. Panic surged through me, my mind racing with fear. I called out her name, my voice cracking with anxiety. People milled around, oblivious to my distress, and the carnival music played on, masking my cries. I tried to stay calm, retracing our steps, but May was nowhere to be found. My heart pounded, and my eyes darted around, desperately searching for that flowered crown, her familiar dress, her tiny frame. What if she was lost, scared, or worse? The colorful lights, lively music, and the scent of delicious street food filled the air, but I had only one thing on my mind - finding May. I had been searching for what felt like an eternity, my voice growing hoarse from calling out May's name. The crowd seemed to swallow my pleas, and the more I looked, the more the sea of people seemed to close in around me. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I thought I spotted a flash of May's familiar dress disappearing into a dimly lit alley. My heart leaped with hope, and without a second thought, I rushed toward the narrow passage. But as I entered the alley, my hope quickly turned to disappointment. The alley was empty, except for a few scattered crates and the echoes of my own footsteps. I leaned against the cool, brick wall, breathing heavily, tears welling up in my eyes. I needed to calm myself down if I wanted to find her. And then, just as I stood up to turn back, I heard a voice that sent shivers down my spine. "Seraphina," it whispered, a sinister, seductive tone that was all too familiar. It was also a name I haven't been called in a long time. My heart sank, for I knew that voice all too well. I turned slowly, trembling, and there he stood, bathed in moonlight's eerie glow. Alistair, in all his beauty. His piercing, silver eyes were fixed on me with a mixture of obsession and longing. His blonde hair cascaded over his broad shoulders, and his pale skin seemed almost luminous in the night. But those features, once so enchanting, were also showing a slight tint of madness. I gasped, recoiling from him, backing up into the wall. I had either completed my path to craziness, or he was actually here. Why though? I had assumed that, after all this time had passed, that maybe they had moved on. But it seemed he hadn't moved on, and his love for me had twisted into something darker by the looks of it. Was it because he was angry at me? He moved closer, his predatory grace evident in every step. It was as if I was his prey. "Seraphina, my love, I've searched for you for so long." Panic surged through me, and I tried to run, but his supernatural speed allowed him to close the distance in an instant. He gripped my arm with inhuman strength. I struggled, fear and adrenaline coursing through my veins. "Let me go, I don't know who that is but its not me!" "You think I can't recognize you? Don't try to lie." Summoning every ounce of strength I had left, I brought my knee up between his legs as hard as I could. He sank to his knees, onto ground, groaning in a fit of pain. Alistair's anguished plea echoed in my ears. Tears welled up in my eyes as I started to run out of the alley, my heart torn between the terror that consumed me and how much I've missed him. "Seraphina, please," he implored, stopping me on my tracks. His voice was trembling and it made me turn to look at him. His eyes locked onto mine with a desperation that mirrored my own. "Don't go. I've been looking for you for so long. I need you... Please..." My breath caught in my throat as I stared at him, my mind a tumultuous sea of conflicting emotions. The world around us was silent, in that moment, it was as if only Alistair and I existed.
