I crept through the shadows, my heart pounding in my chest, the taste of adrenaline thick in my mouth. The night was my ally, the darkness my shield, as I moved with the grace of a panther through the castle's labyrinthine corridors. Lives depended on my ability to distract the enemy, and lead them astray. I reached the corridor leading to the group huddled around where we just were. With every silent step, I inched closer to them, their armor clinking softly as they conversed. With one final glance around the corner, I took a deep breath, summoning my courage. Then, I stepped into their view. Their faces turned in surprise as they saw me. "Vampires are escaping!" I cried out, feigning panic and desperation in my voice. "They're heading to the east gate!" Panic swept through the guards like wildfire. Without hesitation, they abandoned their post and rushed down the corridor in the direction I had pointed. Their boots clanged loudly on the cold, stone floor as they followed the imaginary threat, leaving the path clear. Seeing their comrades rushing others began to follow. Soon there was a huge crowd leading in one direction. I took a moment to catch my breath, grateful that my acting had been convincing. I had bought my friends the time they needed to escape, and that was all that mattered. I quickly disappearred into the darkness, my heart still racing but with a sense of relief and accomplishment. I also guessed correctly that they actually were here to hunt vampires. The armor was also a dead giveaway. Vampires don't ever wear armor they're already powerful enough. I ran to the edge of the forest, my surroundings were clear of danger. Before I took one last step, I turned to take one last look at the place I lived in with Alistair and Lucius. To my surprise I hesitated once again. I might miss them a little bit. But I have to put myself first now. - During the next few days, my heart was racing with a mixture of excitement and fear. The world outside was vast and unknown, but I had to learn to survive. I traveled pretty far, compared to the brief trips to the town next to the castle I spent all my time at. I don't know exactly how far I was, when I reached my first town. As I cautiously made my way through the unfamiliar streets of the bustling unfamiliar town, I couldn't help but feel like a lost child. I had some experience with the outside world but I've never had to live in it. The people, the noise, the chaos—it was all now so overwhelming. Just when I thought I might turn back, I stumbled upon a small marketplace. There, two young girls were selling fresh flowers. One of them, had wild shoulder length red hair and was the older one about my age it looked. The other, had black smooth hair and was alot younger. She looked about 4 or 5. They couldn't have been more different looking from each other. They both radiated a warmth, but it was their slightly dirty rugged appearance that drew me in.No one else seemed to be in such a state. I approached their stall, and they greeted me with welcoming smiles. Luca, the older sister, began to chat with me, and introducing her and her sister to me. I asked how I could find work. Luca, ever resourceful, immediately suggested that I could help them with their flower business. I declined but they gave me a flower anyway and told me to come back sometime. I left to explore the town and ponder my options. I even asked around about the surrounding areas to get a good idea about were I was. I found a pawn shop where I sold my leftover jewelry to have a bit of gold to get me by on my trip to the next town. The only thing I did not sell was the ring I had on my left hand. It was a promise ring that was given to me by the brothers. It had a gold band and a ruby surrounded by tiny emeralds. Also inside the band was their last name Grey. I told myself I did not want to part with it unless I absolutely needed to. Also I felt I had received enough gold to last me a long while. After a few days I once again walked by Luca and May, still selling flowers on the bustling streets. The sunlight danced off the petals, creating a small haven of color and fragrance. I watched them with a smile, admiring their determination. But then, an ominous figure emerged. A man, clearly agitated, began to argue with Luca and May. His tone grew harsh, and it became evident that he was looking for trouble rather than blossoms. Fear clouded their eyes, and I couldn't stand by and watch them suffer. Swiftly, I approached the scene, hoping to mediate and defuse the escalating conflict. I spoke softly, attempting to reason with the man, but he was having none of it. His anger intensified, and he chased Luca and May into a nearby alley, relentless in his pursuit. My heart raced as I followed them into the dimly lit alley, knowing I had to protect these innocent girls from harm. The man was closing in on them, and desperation loomed large. I did the only thing I could think to do, I went behind the aggressor with a brick I found on the ground, and I slammed it on his head as hard as I could. His body went limp and hit the ground. I looked up at Luca and May to see them trembling but safe. I took a moment to reassure them, their eyes were wide with gratitude, and I made sure they were okay. We quickly left the scene and went into a cafe to calm down. I had then questioned them about the situation and they made it known that Luca was of age and there were unsavory men trying to make advances on her in the daily. Their parents were out of the picture so they were homeless and barely made it by. Hearing this I offered for them to come with me and they happily agreed. This startled a very close relationship between the three of us. Over the next few months as we traveled I had gotten to know them very well. They did not have a last name which put their status lower then common folk. This was because of the dissapearremce of their parents. Luca said she doesn't even remember what it is. Their appearances were a stark contrast. Luca, the elder sister, had a wild spirit that seemed unshaken by the hardships of their daily life. She was about 19. Her dark red short cropped hair was often unruly, mirroring her untamed personality. She had a mischievous twinkle in her hazel eyes that hinted at a lifetime of survival instincts and street smarts. May, on the other hand, was the calm and caring counterbalance to Luca's audacious nature. She was only about 5 years old and had a gentleness that radiated from her soft-spoken words and warm smiles. May's black hair framed her face, always neatly combed despite their circumstances, thanks to Luca. She shared the same eyes color as her sister. We traveled from town to town doing odd jobs, and scraped together just enough to afford a meager meal and a place to sleep, often under the open sky. I admired how their lives were filled with uncertainty, yet their spirits remained unbroken. Luca and May's story was a testament to the strength of their sisterly bond. They relied on each other for support and comfort, finding solace in the shared struggles and triumphs that life had thrown at them. In the face of adversity, their love and determination were unwavering, making them a symbol of resilience. I admired this very much and was slightly jealous I did not have this growing up. Surviving outside the castle was challenging, but with Luca and May by my side, it became an adventure. We faced trials and tribulations together, but our bond only grew stronger. Luca's boldness and May's kindness complemented each other perfectly. They soon became my family, and I couldn't have been more grateful for their presence in my life. Luca and May became my pillars of support, and together, we embarked on a journey that forever changed my life.
