Chapter 3: Blood Wars on A Full Moon

1578 Words
The breeze gave the evening a melancholy feeling. The sun was going down, and nighttime business was already set up. Luke talked to the stunning human as he accompanied him to his old Harley. He didn't fancy coming to town often. Not with his pack breathing warnings about the curiosity of humans and Professor Stafford poking his nose around the fake murder scenes Lucian curated. That boy always had a flair for murder. He hadn't intended to come to town today. It held no interest in him after he found out that the human folk had shown his kind nemesis, the dragon blood, the books that detailed how to kill a werewolf. The books had proved helpful to the dragon blood crown, and war had broken out. He led his pack to the battlefield and watched them die. It would take more than Wolfsbane to kill the Alpha. He, Lucian, Matt, and Stace had fallen back from their abode deep in the woods to a clearing that was a tad closer to the town. Although Stace and Matt were lovers, it was going to take moons before they would breed cubs, and they needed all the army they could get before the Crown struck again. Lucian's brilliant idea of biting the hands that bit us and getting humans into our pack seemed like the only solution. He had come into town for a drink and some good time after his argument with Lucian and was met by the prettiest girl he had ever set his eyes on. He had watched the waitress in her glittering dress, the color of wine from the grapevines of old Italy. The dress revealed the smoothness of her back, and he had contemplated running his hands over it. She was beautiful. He grunted when the drunk guy started harassing her and struggled to keep his wolf at bay. He wanted to attack him and teach him why he shouldn't touch anything that belonged to a wolf. He had never expected to get a front-row seat to witness a Cara. She said her name was Cara. He had also not expected to end his drinking day with Cara walking beside him with her hand on his arm, laughing at something he said as he led her to his Harley. He felt her dress bunch up on the old bike and almost lost it when she wrapped her hands around him. This human with brown eyes, cupid lips, and a body to die for was holding him. And he was taking her to a motel, to f*ck and own her. It took a wild amount of self-restraint to get them booked into a decent motel in the heart of the town. The keys were unstable in his hands as he tried to get them into the room. The door finally gave way, and both were barely in when Cara jumped on him, kissing him wildly as he shut the door with a leg. Damn, he loved a woman who knew what she wanted and went for it. What he felt for her was intense—intense enough to let his animal out. He had to be smart about it. The breeze was picking up outside. Cara's brain was numb. It focused on nothing but the way Luke was kissing and touching her. Her dress was off in a jiffy, and her legs slapped the bed. He released her then and watched her crawl back to the bed, suddenly shy of the exposure. Cara liked the way he was looking at her with dark pools of desire. She watched him remove his shirt and bit her lip. He followed suit and kissed her hard. Her brain was fogged with the need for s****l release. Can he, for the love of God, skip foreplay? "Wanna play a game?" He whispered into her ear. The warm breath from his lips teased her. "Mmmm." "I am going to watch you, but you will not see what I'm going to do. Everything I am going to do to you." Cara giggled with growing enthusiasm. He could tell her to hop on two pogo sticks and a hula hoop, and she would say a glorious yes, sir! Luke knew it was unfair to manipulate her like this, but how many humans can go on with lovemaking when his animal comes out with the claws and teeth? He was the very animal they dreamed of hunting down and burning at the stake. He closed her eyes with his discarded shirt and cleared the remaining barriers between them. When Luke sank into her, her cries brought out his claws, and he grunted so deeply he was sure she would guess how not human it was. His claws pierced into the bed, and he licked her clean to ward off other predators that might want to claim her. She was now his. There was no way he was letting this go. ********* Cara woke up when she was sure Luke was still asleep behind her. She could feel his chest hair tickling her back and the rise and fall of his heart behind her. He was naked in the sheets. There were bite marks and nail marks all around her body, and she wondered why she had worn a backless dress without a coat. She doesn't plan on being there the moment he wakes up. It's all going to be awkward and painful as hell when he rejects her, and she doesn't want that. She was aware of what a loser she was and didn't need heaven in the shape of a Greek god to remind her of that. She was just making things easier for the both of them, she thought, as she wore her dress and took flats. She grabbed the key from the cabinet and took one last look at Luke. He was dead asleep with a hand-thrown carelessly over his head. The bed looked like two animals had wrestled on it and lost. She clicked the key into place and slipped out. The outside of the motel was deserted. The man in a brown coat who was smoking cigarettes wasn't there, nor was the couple that was making out on the other side of the motel. She tried to call a cab but couldn't get through. The night was dead silent, a big contrast to the night in Maines and the evening she saw with Luke. Her heart was sad as she thought of him and his disappointment when he woke up all alone tomorrow. Where was everyone? She opened her phone to try to hail a cab when our eyes caught 0:00 on the side of her phone. Damnit! There was a curfew! The moon was full, casting milky light on her surroundings. She heard the leaves in the nearby bush crinkle like someone was stealing around them. She ran to the door, but it wouldn't budge. "Help! Help!! Help!!!" She rammed the door. What time was the curfew? She had no idea; she wasn't listening to her mother. She opened her phone to call Luke, but Roundhouse never got his number. It was a prerequisite for the perfect one-night stand. On her left, from the bush, she saw two glowing blue eyes and heard a growl before she saw the animal. Her hands froze, and her flat phone dropped the call. She was calling her mom. Her legs took her to the roadside, and she ran for her life. The thing in the bush went after her, smashing Alexis's "Frogie?" and going in pursuit. Cara felt it near and dove into the woods, zipping past fallen oaks and pine trees. It followed her as she splashed into the small stream of water that disappeared into the woods. She looked back once she had fallen prey to adrenaline to see the monster chasing her. It was incredibly large and super fast in a way that made her wonder why it hadn't caught up with her yet. She concluded that she liked the chase. It growled to the moon as it followed her tracks. Cara felt her heart in her mouth as the animal took one and two trees to swing to her front. Her legs gave way, and she was knocked down to the dirt in fear. She should have listened to Alexis; that was all she thought as the large wolf licked its snout and approached her, baring his teeth. It all happened so fast. She thought of her dad, of Alexis, of the terrible stench of alcohol, of going bottle blonde, of roller skates and waiting tables, and of Luke before the animal pounced on her, sinking its teeth into her neck. Warm blood oozed out of her. Dizzy-eyed, she watched the blue-eyed animal mark its territory with her blood. She was weak but wasn't dying. She was strong enough to see another animal, larger than the blue-eyed one, shoot out of the darkness of the woods to claw the animal that attacked him. She heard it roar to the moon. Two seconds later, more roars came in response. Devastated, she got up and removed her gown to hold the pressure on her wounded neck. Before she left, she saw the larger wolf look at her and saw two piercing gray eyes that were becoming increasingly familiar. Before the rest of the pack would catch up with her. She turned to hobble out of the woods.
