Ashton POV
"Someone is here" said Damon
My heart started to race. I followed behind Damon stepping out onto my front porch.
"The f**k you mean I'm not allowed in there? That's my girlfriend's house. Who the f**k are you?"
I heard his voice before I could see him.
Sean.
He still considered me his girlfriend after last night. I'm not sure if I felt relieved or not. My mind flashing to his weapon. I'm not sure I could get past that.
As soon as he saw me, he tried once more to get around Damon's men.
"Let him" Damon announced.
Sean didn't even acknowledge him.
"Ashton, what is happening?
What was going on with you last night?
And then you just ran off? Everyone has been so worried.
Where have you been this whole time?
And who are all these people?" He frantically rattled off questions before I could even say anything.
But what was I supposed to say. I couldn't tell him the truth. Whatever that even was.
"Ashton..." Sean yelled this time when I didn't answer.
That made Damon shift his stance a little closer to me. Even without an introduction, he knew exactly who this was based of my explanation of events last night. And he was protecting me.
I knew it would be best for Sean and everyone else to stay away from me right now so I did the only thing I could think of.
"I was sick Sean. There was something wrong with me and instead of helping me, you threatened me. So I ran, from you. These men found me and took me to the clinic for help. I guess I can trust them more than I can trust you." My tone was harsher than I had anticipated but I needed him to believe my lie.
Sean started to say something but I cut him off before he could.
"If you have my bag that I left last night I'd like it back. Otherwise you can go. We are done."
Even though my voice sounded strong and confident, those words stung a bit.
Damon was now staring at me. Just watching the events unfold.
Without saying a word, Sean walked back to his truck, grabbed my bag out of the bed and threw it on the ground.
He then jumped in his truck and took off without another glance.
My heart leapt into my throat. I just broke his heart. The boy I had loved and who loved me.
The strength I had been trying to hold onto now gone. I broke into what felt like a million pieces. I fell to the ground and cried.
To my surprise, gentle hands cupped my cheeks and wiped away tears. I glanced up to meet Damon's eyes.
Damon POV
I was unsure if the things Ashton was saying was true or not but then she allowed herself to fall apart after he was out of sight. That told me she didn't believe her own words. There was another reason she drove him away.
As happy as I was for my own selfish reasons, it made me ache to see her heartbroken. I did my best to comfort her without overstepping.
"Come on, let's head back". I announced after some time. I helped her stand, grabbed her belongings and started to head back to the pack house.
"Why should I trust you?" Ashton suddenly asked.
Not wanting to tell her about our mate bond before she's ready I responded "have I given you a reason to not trust me?"
She just looked at me.
"Damon, I'm starting to feel off again" she said.
I looked around realizing how quickly night fell.
"It's ok, we feel the effects of a full moon for a couple days surrounding the full moon. It won't be as intense but you'll still notice a difference."
We were only about 10 minutes from the pack house now.
"I still would like to see you shift" she stated with a smile.
