Damon POV
Grady was already sitting by my desk when I walked into my office.
"How's she doing?" He asked once he saw me.
"Physically she's fine, just tired. She is in denial about her wolf though."
I sat down across from him
"If she will agree to it, I would like Dr Crawford to do a full body exam and check for any pack markings, as well as get a full profile of Ashton and her immediate family. Once that is complete, we should have a lead to follow."
Grady nodded. He was good at gathering intel. Once we get the reports back from Dr Crawford,he will take the lead and report his findings back to me.
"I hope to have some answers for her within the next 24 hours" I continued.
"And what about her old life? Grady asked.
I hadn't thought much about it. Typically, when a wolf finds her mate, especially being an Alpha, she follows him to his pack and that becomes her home. But Ashton grew up human. She knows nothing about wolf law or ways of life.
"Once she accepts her wolf, shifts and the mate bond fully forms, I hope she will choose to stay here." I left it at that. I've only known her roughly 12 hours and I already couldn't imagine not having her. I hope she will feel the same way.
Ashton POV
I waited, after Damon left, before getting up to shower and change. It all felt surreal, yet..... comfortable.
I couldn't explain it but this room, the smell, Damon, all felt comfortable.
Eventually, I showed and dressed. Choosing a flowy sundress from the items that were brought to me. Instead of sitting back on the bed I wandered around the bedroom a little. It was well kept with no personal items or pictures around. Everything was very basic and simple. Just then the door opened.
Damon stopped when his eyes met mine. I watched his eyes trail over every inch of my body. He didn't even bother to hide it, making the heat in my body rise.
"Feel better?" He finally spoke.
"I do, thank you." I responded
"I need to reach out to my friends. They were planning a party for me today for my birthday." I did want to let them know I was okay but I was also curious if Sean told them anything.
Maybe they weren't looking for me. Maybe Sean told them I turned into some crazy monster and ran away.
"I left my phone and purse behind at the campsite" I continued.
"I will send someone to look around the area for you" Damon said.
"So how does this all work, my wolf, I mean?" I tried my best to not sound skeptical.
Damon began telling me about shifting, being able to speak with your wolf after the first shift and many more details. I was having trouble wrapping my head around everything until one part caught my attention.
Pack markings.
"What did you say about pack markings?" I asked.
"Every wolf has some sort of marking on their body that represents which pack they were born into, sometimes it's very obvious and other times it may look like a subtle birthmark" explained Damon.
I thought for a moment then slowly lifted the side of my dress to reveal a birthmark that very closely resembled an eclipse.
"Something like this" I flashed the mark to Damon.
He stepped closer and without warning reach up to touch the mark.
I flinched slightly at his touch.
"That is exactly what that is, but I don't recognize it. We will have to do some research" Damon said.
His hand continued to rest on my thigh. I didn't say anything, I just watched his fingers trace the outline of my mark. The sensation made me shiver.
He stopped and looked up at me.
"Cold?" He said with a smirk.
His facial expression told me he knew I wasn't cold.
"So can I watch you shift? I asked abruptly wanting to change the subject.
