The pack house was never truly silent, but tonight it was close. Way down on the first floor she could hear the muted clatter of someone cleaning the industrial kitchen, the low murmur of guards switching posts, the distant thunk of maintenance doing their last walkthrough. But up here, on the floor where only the Alpha and highest ranks worked and lived, the air was still. Too still. Ace sat frozen behind her desk, staring at the door like it might open but it didn’t.
