Ace came back to herself slowly floating upward through pain, voices, and the steady hum of something mechanical. Her eyelids felt heavy, too heavy, but she forced them open. A bright light blurred above her. The sharp scent of antiseptic filled the air. A hospital. She blinked, her breath hitching as another contraction rippled through her abdomen.
