Chapter 4

Kent's POV

as I pull up to the pack house I get a mind link from my father "Andrue woke up and told them everything that happened, they're pissed and headed to come get the girl."

"okay I'll get her to her new room so she's safe" I mind link back "hey, we need to go upstairs I want to show you your room" I tell Clare and she mumbles back an "okay"

after I park I walk around to her side to pull the door open and help her down, I keep holding onto her hand and quickly pull her inside not noticing all of the people staring at us as I begin to go up the stairs with her. Stopping finally when I reach the room next to mine I finally let her hand go and open the door "this is your new room, a few omegas are bringing your things up and will be up soon. relax and settle in, I need to go talk to my father we are just down the hall in the very last room"

"thank you" she says blushing a bit while smiling at me some "this is the nicest thing someone has ever done for me"

"you're very welcome Clare and before I forget my room is right next door on the right" I tell her then close the door "time to go see father and the betas to decide their fate" I think walking twords my father's office

Clare's POV

sighing I sit down to think after he leaves the room "what have I gotten myself into?" I say aloud then jump when I hear a soft knock "come in" I call out to whomever is on the other side, a timid omega walks in with one of my bags and steps aside to let the couple others in "just set the stuff down by the closet, I'll put it all away later. thank yall for bringing my stuff" they all just bow and walk out closing the door "odd" I think and go to grab some close so I can shower and change. humming to myself as I look through my bags I hear yelling in the hallway that sounded an awful lot like Kate

"she's a LIAR! We have never touched her in any malicious way ever!" I heard her scream too close to my door for comfort so I jump up to lock it then go hide in the very back of the closet with my bags in the way to hopefully block her from getting in as I begin to hear more shouting I put my hands over my ears to muffle the sounds. I don't know how long I was there but it felt like ages before I stopped hearing loud voices and yelling so I dropped my hands from my ears but chose to keep hiding in the closet until I heard a soft knock o n the bedroom door

"Clare? it's Kent I just want to check on you" I hear him call out and I go unblock the closet door and stand behind the bedroom door

"is it just you?" I say softly

"yes, they're all in the dungeon. You're safe now" I hear him reply "may I come in?" I unlock the door and as I'm opening it he barges in and he bear hugs me tightly "I'm so sorry you had to hear all of that " he whispered and I hug him back tightly not responding as I just begin to cry silently

"what's wrong Clare?" he asks as he begins to play with my hair

"I was so scared, I hid in my closet so I only heard what she said initially but hearing all the yelling scared me so badly"

Kent's POV

I frown a bit and pick her up closing the door and sitting on the bed "let it all out Clare, I promise you'll never be hurt by them ever again" I rub her back and hold onto her until she cries herself to sleep and tuck her in and soon after slip out to go talk to my father. hesitating I knock on the door and wait for him to say "come in" once he does I walk in and shut the door

"what are we gonna do dad? she's so scared of everything she just cried herself to sleep"

"I don't know son, I just need to figure out why they did it and you need to take care of her. She seems to have nobody else except a girl named Jessica and even then we don't know her true intentions with Clare" he sighs and leans back in his chair "we will figure this out son, I promise"

"what do you mean?"

"Jessica came here around 2 years ago, supposedly from the same pack as Clare but if she was in the same pack why suddenly show up and how did she find Clare? it seems a bit sketchy especially since it was said her entire pack was wiped out and Clare was the only one that lived"

"I see what you mean dad, that does seem pretty sketchy. I wonder if she knew about the abuse and why she didn't report it?"

suddenly we heard a knock at the door and my father says "come in" but there was no response and nobody came in so I went and checked it and find a note, opening it and reading it aloud

"Bring the girl to the cove in ten days, if you don't you will severely regret it and have a war on your hands. Be a smart Alpha and don't kill your pack over one girl"

" What the hell? " is all I manage to get out before we hear her scream, I take off down the hall and into her room to find her thrashing around on her bed having what looks like a horrible nightmare "Clare?" I say and walk over touching her hand almost instantly calming her.

"is she okay?" I hear my dad behind me ask

"I don't know, that was a nightmare and it seemed to be pretty bad. I don't know how I calmed her but I'm glad I did. I can stay with her until she wakes and we hopefully figure out why she had her nightmare"

"okay son, I will be in my office if you need anything don't hesitate to link me. I will have an omega bring up food for you two once dinners done so she doesn't feel overwhelmed her first night here" he says and leaves the room

I grab the chair from the vanity and sit on it grabbing her hand again "I won't let any harm come to you Clare, not any more. I'm so sorry for letting you be abused all of these years, I should've seen the signs sooner but I didn't and I will forever regret not being able to rescue you sooner" I whisper to her "I don't know why I feel so strongly twords you but I do and I will be your protector forever and always" leaning over I kiss her forehead then lay my head down on the mattress next to where she's laying and fall asleep

I apologize for such a delayed chapter, I had most of it written out and it didn't save for some reason so I had to rewrite it and I was also revising the chapter before characters since it was so short I wanted to add too it some. thank y'all for reading and I hope y'all have a wonderful week.
