Uhuru still on the floor looking confused at the beaded knife in red pearls her mom was still holding “Not like me?” “Not the same blood?” “Mom I’m lost please find me” “Explain to me I promise to understand” She turned to her sister “Hameho say something please” “Uhuru I’m lost too She won’t tell me anything maybe she would tell you if you just ask her again I am dying to know who I am” Lady Tito eyes were filled with anger and regrets standing in between her daughter’s confusion “Mom, who is Hameho to us? I have known her all my life as my sister. She bathed me, Clothed me Fed me even when you barely had time for me. I have seen her bled when the axe cut her toe from helping me tear a wood, I have seen my blood too when I fell from the tree at the back of the house and It’s the same colour mom” Uhuru leaned forward to her mom saying “This must be a mistake mom” “Uhuru, look at her Can your veins do this?” “Maybe she’s sick mom” “She’s not sick, Uhuru, open your eyes!! Look at her skin, Look at what's waking up inside of her. Do you think a child of Armeth carries light under their veins? Uhuru manage to stand up properly moving towards Hameho she looked at Hameho not with fear that lady Tito wore but with confusion. “Tell her she’s wrong, Hameho tell her we have the same blood, tell her you are a child of Armeth, tell her you belong to Armet”. Hameho stood still too scared to touch her sister when she came closer, as Uhuru came close she held her breath too scared to breath as she thought she would infect Uhuru by simply breathing same air because she’s unsure of whatever was brewing inside of her “Uhuru move back I might not be safe do not touch me” Uhuru cried more when Hameho tried to keep her distance. “ I love you Hameho you are my sister and I know you are safe even safer than mom. “Be quiet uhuru you do not speak of your mother like this at least not in my presence and she can’t tell you I’m wrong because the village of Armeth wasn't built on survivors, Uhuru. It was built on a lie. And she is the truth we've been running from. As they kept arguing inside, footsteps approached their door step. “Quite” Lady Tito ordered Uhuru Tito…. Where is Tito? As Lady Tito heard the voice she knew exactly who it was but she wasn’t sure if the village chief wanted to state a problem or he was seeking for a solution. Good evening my lord, what brings you here this late? Lady Tito asked the chief while she tried to hide what was behind the curtain as she pulled herself out of the house using her side indirectly concealing the mess in the house. “The moon is red and there are seven bright stars circulating it. This has never happened before, every event that had taken place in Armeth, I know of but this is strange.” “My lord, I understand your concern but the stars and red moon might be a sign of great Harvest this year.” “Hmm Tito, look into this and get back to me in the morning.” As the chief turned to leave he took a few steps then immediately stopped. Lady Tito stopped too as soon as she heard his steps stopped “My Lord, why did you stop? Did you forget something?” “Where is Hameho Tito?” “My lord Hameho is sick and she is sleeping. I was attending to her before you came”. The neighbors stick their heads through curtains and door holes whispering and wondering why the village chief came all the way from the palace that late but no one dares come out. After hearing about Hameho’s health the Chief turned to leave when he saw Akate, Akate is the village drunk who was returning from his usual drinking spot singing about the rise of the forbidden blood. As he passed the village chief he gave him a silly look and called him a coward for hiding the truth. Hameho and Uhuru heard the drunk speaking rudely to the chief, immediately Uhuru turned to Hameho and asked “What truth is he talking about? Uhuru asked with so much concern, why is he even calling the village chief a coward?” The village chief stood for a while, looking around to see if people were outside or if what Akate said would draw attention to him but since there was no reaction from Lady Tito, He shoved the drunk to the ground, spat on him and told him he would cut his tongue if he continued to speak ill of him. As He walked back to his palace he kept thinking of what Akate the village drunk said to him. Lady Tito entered the room walked passed Hameho without looking at her as if she was trying to ignore everything that happened before the village chief came. “Where are you going to mom Uhuru asked” “Where do you think? To my room” “You can’t leave without giving us an answer. if I don’t deserve an answer Hameho deserves to know what’s happening to her.” “Uhuru let it slide, give her time she might give me an answer tomorrow. I feel weak. Can you help me clean up? Hameho asked “Yes I can” “Thank you, Good night Uhuru” “Hameho that’s not the way to your room” “I know…..” “Are you running away?” “No! I just want to sit outside and clear my head” “Are you sure you are not running away?” “Uhuru I am tired of talking, the questions are becoming too much” “ Stay in my room tonight. I promise not to say a word till it’s morning….. no more questions.” Hameho turned to the direction facing Uhuru’s room, as she lay down on Uhuru’s bed she started crying, as she cried the bed lift itself she opened her eyes to look around only to discover she was already afloat in Uhuru’s room she struggled to calm down but as she struggled her eyes lit a blue light. Uhuru was done cleaning up so she decided to join Hameho in the room but as she opened the door to her room her eyes almost fell from its socket, she used her hands to cover her mouth to stop her from screaming and at this point Hameho was floating in the room and unconscious. “Hameho you are floating” Uhuru was confused and scared she caught in between calling their mother, shouting or trying to wake Hameho up. “Hameho wake up, Please wake up” She was trying to wake her up a strong wind blew into the house while Hameho was still suspended on air, the window opened on its own and it feels like a force dragging Hameho away through the window. Uhuru with fear in her heart held Hameho’s hands whispering…. wake up!!! Hameho snapped back holding Uhuru’s hand her body lowered itself to the ground, by this time her body became cold as ice and her face pale like there was no blood in her system “I’m scared Uhuru” “I’m scared too Hameho” “But if you were scared you would have shouted, call for mom or ran away, you wouldn’t have entered the room or hold my hands” “I thought the wind was going to take you away, it lifted your body higher and the window was wide open so I held your hands to keep you safe because I thought the wind wanted to throw you out the window.” “Uhuru there is something in my stomach starting like a fire. It's hot during the day but when it started this evening it became cold as ice. “Hameho I think you need to see the medicine woman” “The one that couldn’t cure her daughter? I heard her daughter had some strange illness that was stronger than her medicine” “So did she die?” “I heard she went into the forest and never came home. Some said she had strange powers while others said she was a strange being” “Good night Uhuru I really need to sleep now” Lady Tito completely unaware of Hameho’s second floating episode, deep in her sleep had a strange dream She’s awakening….. Her powers are ruthless, she's the last blood and must………… ohh it’s just a dream as lady Tito woke up she looked outside and it’s still not morning…..she became too scared to sleep back and too scared for a new day because she needs to have answers for the village chief by morning.
