‘How is Athena doing?’. I ask my best friend for the umpteenth time since what happened. She keeps saying everything is OK, but something feels off.
Jared and I have been estranged in the past week as well. We won’t even speak to one another. Which is completely fine by me. I don’t even recognize the man I am mated to anymore. He was never peachy, don’t get me wrong. But he wasn’t this vicious as to hurt an innocent child either. It has certainly made me think long and hard about my future.
My sons have been very humble and apologetic to me, even going so far as to say they would make amends with Athena somehow. And what a fool I have been to believe them, I think to myself when I spot Athena stepping into the pack house at that exact moment.
