CAR RIDE TO SCHOOL

(KARI'S POV)
I hugged Lucian and walked out the front door side by side with Quinn to his car. It's a dark red jeep and I love it. We get in the car and I buckle. Quinn gets in beside me and starts to drive toward the school.
"Hey, Quinn can I ask you something?" I look at him shyly.
"Of course Kari you can ask me anything."
"What does it feel like during your first shift? Does it hurt at all?" I had asked my family even Luna Skylar and Alpha Dimitri. But thanks to Lycan no one would tell me. I knew if I asked Quinn he would tell me the truth. his face fell a little as he parked the jeep in the school parking lot. then he turned and looked at me.
"I'm not going to lie to you it is going to hurt a lot. But you will have your wolf with you at midnight but at the exact time you were born is when you will start your shift. If your mate is close and has had their first shift they can help you block out all of that pain."
I looked at him in shock as he explained all of this to me. I am excited and nervous. I can't wait to meet my wolf and mate. I'm hoping he is in our pack so I don't have to leave my family. I have been to both of my brothers Coles and Quinn's first shifts. I do remember Quinn's being the worst because he is the next Alpha.
"I hope it goes smoothly for me I don't handle that kind of pain very well and I get trained by our fathers hahaha so you would think it will be a breeze."
The smile that he gave me melted my heart and I want nothing more than to keep him smiling like that at least until he finds his mate. I could feel my face turning red.
"You will do great like you always do. Plus you have all of us to help you too. You know your dad wouldn't let you do it alone."
I sit with him in his jeep for a little while until others started to show up. We get out and meet at the front of the car.
"Thank you for the ride Quinn and thank you for telling me about shifting everyone else is too scared of Lycan and dad to tell me." I hug him and then turn to leave but he grabs me and pulls me back into another hug. "Just a little longer please," Quinn said more to himself than me but I still heard him. it confused me but I stop thinking about it and enjoy our hug. He let me and I tell him goodbye again. before I get too far from him he yells out to me,
"I'll be here all day when your classes are over, come find me and I can give you a ride back to the pack house. I heard our moms will be cooking dinner tonight.
"I would love that thank you, Quinn."
I smiled and waved to him one last time before heading to the front of the school and meeting up with Cole for our first class.
"Good morning Cole." I run up to him and smile.
"Well good morning Kari. I see Quinn gave you a ride to school this morning."
"Yeah, Lucian asked him to because dad is going overboard on not letting me do anything before my shift I'm not even allowed to train until after my shift. Cole is going crazy here."
"Ah, I see I'm surprised Lycan hasn't come out more the closer your shift gets."
"Oh he has and it takes everything mom and her wolf Ashina has to get him to calm down and trust me to be lucky the floors are sound proof just wish the walls were too. We aren't even allowed to talk about my shift around my dad or Lycan comes out."
"Damn well that explains why mom and dad have been on edge the closer your birthday gets."
"Yeah, Lycan has that effect on everyone. You know why my dad is like this right? I'm hoping after I finally shift he will chill out some. I am going crazy"
"No I've never heard the story and you will have to tell it to me sometime. Hahaha well, the crazy lady let's get to class before mom sees us."
"Yeah, I'm not getting into trouble for you again."
"Hey, I said I would pay you back."
"Yeah yeah. Come on let's get to class."
