A pillar of silver light shot up from the Moon Temple and lit up the whole valley.
For just a heartbeat, everything stopped.
The united packs and the Bloodmoon warriors all froze, staring at that impossible light cutting through the clouds, stretching until it touched the full moon overhead.
And the Moon actually answered.
Its gentle glow swept across the sky, draping the battlefield in cool silver, soft as a blessing.
Pain faded for the wounded. The exhausted straightened their backs, feeling strength returning to their limbs. Even the frigid wind felt less harsh.
Kaiden’s face broke into a smile as he caught sight of the temple. “She did it.”
The Guardian bowed his head, humbled. “The Moon Goddess chose her.”
But across the field, Darius’s face twisted in anger.
“No…” His voice shook. “No, this wasn’t supposed to happen.”
Inside the Moon Temple, Lyra stood at the center of a room pulsing with light.
The ancient voice that had guided her faded away, leaving behind a warm, peaceful quiet.
Then, footsteps sounded behind her.
She turned and there stood Queen Elena, dressed in a white gown stitched with silver wolves. Beside her was King Aiden Frost, his armor gleaming like forged moonlight.
Lyra forgot to breathe. “My… father.”
King Aiden’s smile was gentle. “I’ve waited so long to see you.”
Lyra ran into their arms. This time, the embrace was real and warm. Tears spilled down her cheeks.
“I wish I’d known you,” she managed.
King Aiden touched her shoulder. “You always have. We live in your courage and your kindness.”
Queen Elena brushed away Lyra’s tears. “We’re proud of who you are.”
Lyra’s voice was barely a whisper. “I still have so much to learn.”
Her father just smiled. “If you thought you had nothing left to learn, you’d already be unfit to lead.”
“The greatest rulers never stop growing.”
A silver crown shimmered into view between them. This one wasn’t gaudy or ornate just elegant, circled with soft moonstones.
Queen Elena lifted it. “This isn't a crown of power. It’s a crown that brings responsibility.” She set it gently on Lyra’s head. As it touched her, silver light flooded her body. She felt it not in her bones, but deep inside. Her spirit steadied. All those fears from Blackwood Forest finally fell away.
The Moonfang Blade glowed in her hand, brighter than ever.
King Aiden beamed with pride. “The White Kingdom has its Queen again.”
The temple shook beneath their feet.
Queen Elena looked up at the ceiling, sadness in her eyes. “Our time is over.”
Lyra reached for her. “No”
Her mother pressed a hand to Lyra’s heart. A white light flared just below Lyra’s collarbone a mark.
“The Mark of the Moon,” Elena said softly. “It will guide you when darkness closes in.”
The King and Queen began to fade, turning to drifting specks of silver that settled into the crown.
Lyra choked out, “I don’t want to lose you again.”
Her father’s voice lingered. “You won’t. As long as there’s hope in your heart… we’re with you. Always.”
Silence fell as the temple doors creaked open.
Kaiden sprinted toward her. “Lyra!”
She stepped outside into the sun. For a split second, no one spoke.
She was changed. Her silver eyes shone calm and sure. The crown sat lightly on her head. Her battered jacket had become a flowing cloak.
Magnus bent the knee first. “We greet the Queen of the White Kingdom.”
One by one, Serena, Ronan, and all the other Alphas knelt. Then, hundreds of warriors followed.
Flushing with embarrassment, Lyra said, “Please… don’t.”
Magnus smiled. “We kneel because we want to. You’ve earned it.”
Just then, a scream tore through the temple.
Everyone spun around.
Darius stumbled out. Those crimson marks on his neck had spread over his face, and his eyes burned red like coals.
He laughed, but the sound was wrong too deep, unnatural.
Fenrir’s voice echoed beneath it.
Cassian whispered, “He’s become Fenrir’s vessel.”
Darius grinned, cold and empty. “I am so much more now.”
Dark energy burst from him, sending warriors tumbling away. The snow around him melted in seconds.
Kaiden moved in front of Lyra. “Stay back.”
Lyra shook her head. “No. We face him together.”
He grinned. “Together.”
The Guardian watched, satisfied. “The prophecy begins.”
Darius lifted his sword. “You’re too late. The last seal doesn’t need the White Wolf anymore.”
The whole crowd stilled. Cassian paled.
“What did you say?” he demanded.
Darius grinned. “While you were busy celebrating… Fenrir found another way.”
Far away, Blood Mountain erupted with a roar strong enough to shake the ground. A huge crack split its side. The final crimson chain burst into a shower of burning fragments.
Silence.
Then, all at once a massive black claw punched through the mountain face. Bigger than any tower in the White Kingdom. Then another.
Clouds blackened the sky. An ancient howl shook the world’s bones.
Every werewolf dropped to their knees, crushed by the weight in the air. Even the toughest Alphas struggled for breath.
The Guardian stared at the mountain, horrified. “Fenrir… is free.”
Out of the mountain’s wound, a monstrous wolf crawled, his eyes glowing red even from afar.
He raised his head toward the sky. Then his gaze found Lyra.
A horrible, knowing smile split his face.
“So… The Last White Wolf finally shows herself.”
