The Last Seal

934 Words
The sky held onto its bloody shade even after the roar died away. Every werewolf stared at Blood Mountain. Nobody said a word. Nobody dared. The mountain itself seemed to be breathing alive somehow. A pulse of dark energy swept through the land, making the trees thrash and shudder. Birds bolted, and out in the woods, wolves began to howl. The Guardian’s face darkened. “Fenrir’s awake... but he’s not free,” he said. Lyra frowned, confused. “I don’t get it.” The old warrior turned so everyone could hear him. “There were three ancient seals put on Blood Mountain by the Moon Goddess. Two are broken.” He pointed at the glowing mountain. “If the last seal falls, nothing will stop Fenrir.” Kaiden crossed his arms. “How long do we have?” The Guardian closed his eyes, thinking. “Less than three days.” Silence weighed down the group, thick and heavy. --- The rescued prisoners gathered around Lyra. The little girl Lyra saved stepped forward and handed her a silver wolf pendant. “My mom said this belonged to the White Queen,” she whispered. “You should have it.” Lyra took it carefully. The moment her fingers touched it, silver light flared. The wolf symbol pulsed and glowed. The Guardian just stared. “The Moon Crest...” “It sees the royal bloodline.” Some hidden writing appeared along the back of the pendant. The Guardian read it aloud: “Only the Heir of the White Moon may open the Path of Stars.” Kaiden blinked. “The Path of Stars?” The Guardian nodded. “It’s an old road. It leads to the Moon Goddess’s Temple.” “That’s where the White Wolf unlocks her true strength.” Lyra looked down at the pendant. “So that’s where we need to go.” The Guardian nodded again. “Getting there won’t be easy.” --- Far away, inside Blood Mountain... Darius stood before a massive stone gate. Two of three glowing chains hung broken. Only one remained. A deep voice thundered from the dark. “You’ve served me well,” it said. Crimson eyes burned behind the gate. Darius knelt. “My lord,” he said. “What do you need me to do?” The ancient beast laughed. “Bring me the White Wolf. Her blood will break the final seal.” Darius grinned. “It’ll happen.” Suddenly, Lucien stepped into the cavern. He bowed. “My Alpha. The prisoners escaped. I let them.” Darius turned sharply. “You did what?” Lucien met his eyes, fearless. “She’s stronger than we guessed. If we corner her now, she’ll fight us to the death.” “But if we let her chase the Moon Temple...” He gave a faint smile. “She’ll lead us to power, maybe even more than Fenrir’s prison holds.” Darius thought it over, then laughed. “That’s smart.” “Let her take the path.” “When she unlocks her true strength ” “We’ll take it, and everything else.” Lucien lingered in the shadows, and his face shifted. Doubt touched him, just for a second. --- That night, Lyra and her group made it back to the White Vault. The Riverclaw survivors were welcomed by the White Kingdom guardians. While everyone found a place to rest, Lyra slipped away, wandering into the old throne room. She stopped in front of the crystal throne. “I don’t know if I’m ready,” she whispered. A gentle voice answered. “You don’t need to be.” Lyra turned fast. A glowing figure stood beside the throne: Queen Elena, her mother. Her spirit shimmered in robes that caught the moonlight. Lyra’s eyes filled with tears. “Mother...” Elena smiled, warm and proud. “You’ve grown into the woman I prayed you’d become.” Lyra reached out, but her hands passed through Elena’s image. “I’ve missed you,” Lyra said. “I know.” “I wish I could stay.” Elena reached for Lyra’s heart, her hand glowing and transparent. “The strength you need has never been in your sword. It’s always been here.” Lyra lowered her head. “I’m scared.” “I was, too,” Elena said. “A real queen isn’t fearless she chooses courage anyway.” Elena’s spirit started fading. “Wait!” Lyra cried. “I still have so many questions.” “You’ll find the answers at the Moon Temple. And remember ” “You’re never alone.” The light vanished, and silence filled the room. --- Morning came. Kaiden called everyone to the great hall. A big map waited on the table. The Guardian pointed at a narrow pass. “The Path of Stars starts here. It crosses the Frozen Peaks and then Whispering Valley before the Moon Temple.” Ethan scowled. “No army’s made it across that path in ages. Most never return.” Kaiden looked at Lyra. “We leave at sunrise.” Before anyone could react, a scout dashed in. “My Alpha! We’ve got visitors!” The wide doors of the White Vault slowly opened. Outside stood five powerful Alphas from neighboring packs. Their leader stepped forward a stern warrior with silver hair and a deep scar over one eye. He planted his spear. “We are here to judge the one who claims to be the Last White Wolf. If she is unworthy...” His cold gaze locked onto Lyra. “She’ll never leave this vault alive.”
