CHAPTER 2
Giana’s pov
The day of the wedding arrived and I stood numbly in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. I was dressed in a simple white sari, my hair pulled back into a tight bun.
Mother fussed over me, adjusting my jewelry and smoothing out my clothes. “You look better today,” she said with a smirk admiring her work on me.
I didn’t respond. I couldn’t. My heart felt like it was made of stone.
The ceremony was brief, just a simple contract signing in front of a few witnesses. Niks eyes met mine, his face expressionless.
As soon as it was over, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. It was done. I was married.
I saw my father stepping out, and as I turned to follow him niks voice stopped me. “ you’ll come with me now” he said his tone cold.
I nodded, following him out of the house. I then noticed that he was with someone a man maybe it was his father.
But I knew better than to speak when I wasn’t spoken to.
We walked out to his car with guards trailing behind us “Nikolai be a gentleman and open the door for your wife no” The older man finally spoke up and surprisingly he complied without glancing at me.
The ride to their house was filled with suffocating silence and it was estimatingly a 30-minute drive to the house.
The driver brings us to a stop outside a large iron gate armed with cameras and men who looked like they’d kill you without bashing an eyelash and they did a terrible job at hiding their guns.
The windows rolled down and one of the men approached. Instinctively I recoiled in fear but the older man grabbed my shoulders “They’re just for protection Цветок (flower)” he meant to calm me down but he creeped me by touching me.
Yes, my father Led a mafia so I didn’t have the right to be scared of guns but I never went close to those things our mafia is more of a family but these guys were an army.
The structure- a traditional villa was slightly larger than ours. I mean it was pretty obvious he was rich rich
As I stood in the foyer, trying to wrap my head around my new reality, Nikolai’s voice cut through the silence.
“We leave for Russia tomorrow morning” he
said his tone abrupt and cold.
I felt a jolt of surprise. “Russia?”. I repeated trying to process.
Nikolai’s eyes narrowed almost annoyed “Yes Russia my home” he turned and walked away leaving me standing alone in the foyer.
I swallowed hard, feeling a wave of uncertainty wash over me. I had never been to Russia before, and the thought of leaving Italy, my father, and everything I knew behind was daunting.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. I knew I had to be strong, to adapt to this new reality. But as I followed Nikolai to the bedroom. I couldn’t shake off the feeling that I was walking into a nightmare.
I followed into the room I saw him enter but as I opened the door he was nowhere to be seen. The bathroom door was closed, and I could hear the sound of running water.
I sat on the bed feeling uncertain, until the bathroom door opened and Nikolai emerged.
His eyes narrowed as he took in the sight of me standing in his bedroom. “What are you doing here?” He growled.
I took a step back, feeling a surge of fear. “I…I thought this was where I was supposed to sleep”
His face darkened. “You’ll find another room”, he spat “This one is mine”.
I nodded hastily, feeling a sting at the back of my eyes from his choice of words. I turned and fled the room not allowing him to see me being weak.
I finally found a small, cozy room downstairs tucked away in a quiet corner of the villa. The bed was soft and inviting, and I collapsed onto it, exhausted.
I fell into a deep sleep unaware of the commotion that would erupt just hours later.
But as I slept I was vaguely aware of the shouting and footsteps outside my room. It wasn’t until I heard Nikolai’s voice, loud and angry that I jolted awake.
“…. Find her!!” He was yelling “Search the entire place everywhere”
My heart racing, I threw off the covers and rushed to the door. I flung it open and was met with silence.
I walked to the living room and there Nikolai stood with that old man by his side and his men in front of him.
And then his eyes landed on me.
For a moment, we just stared at each other. I could see the tension in his body, the rage in his eyes.
And then he took a step closer, I took a step back. “Where were you?” He growled.
I swallowed hard, trying to explain. “I….I found a room downstairs and I was sleeping”
His eyes narrowed “You were supposed to be in my room” he spat.
I raised my head looking at him full of confusion “You told me to find another room” I reminded him.
His face darkened and for a moment I thought he might hit me.
But then, he seemed to regain control of himself. “Get upstairs”, he growled. “Now”
I nodded hastily and turned to obey. But as I walked away, I could feel his eyes on me burning with anger and suspicion.
As I reached the top of the stairs I heard Nikolai's footsteps behind me. “Gianna” he called out.
“Yes” my heart sinking
“Prepare for the flight,” he said, his eyes glinting with anger. “We leave in an hour”.
I nodded hastily, feeling a surge of anxiety. I had never been on a private plane before, and the thought of being trapped in a small space with Nikolai was daunting.
But I didn’t have a choice. I turned and hurried to the bedroom trying to take a bath and pack my belongings as quickly as possible.
As I finished everything, Nikolai appeared in the doorway.
“Let’s go”.
I nodded grabbing my bag and following him out of the villa. We walked to the private airfield, where Nikolai's plane was, I felt a sense of trepidation. I was trapped, with no escape.
Nikolai sat opposite me his eyes fixed on me with unnerving intensity “Buckle up” he said.
I nodded, fastening my seatbelt as the plane took off. We soared into the sky leaving Italy behind.
As we flew, Nikolai didn’t say a word to me. He just sat there his eyes fixed on me with a mixture of anger and suspicion.
I tried to ignore him but it was impossible. I could feel his eyes on me burning with intensity.
I didn’t even notice when I had fallen asleep

As we arrived at the mansion, I couldn’t help but gasp in shock. The estate was breathtakingly beautiful, with sprawling gardens and a majestic palace-like structure.
I felt like I had stepped into a fairy tale, but Nikolai's expression remained unfazed as he walked towards the house leaving me to follow behind.
We were greeted by Mary the elderly butler who smiled warmly at Nikolai “Welcome home Niko” she said her eyes shining with affection.
And for what felt like the first time since I met this man his eyes had something other than anger and hatred it was care
He cared for her.
“Thank you Mary this is Gianna, we’re married”
Mary’s eyes turned to me and she smiled kindly “Welcome Моя дочь” ( my daughter)
I honestly didn’t even know what that meant but I assumed it was Russian and something nice-I guess.
I smiled back, feeling a little more at ease. There was something warm and comforting about Mary’s presence.
As we walked through the mansion I couldn’t help but stare. Everything was opulent and luxurious, from the crystal chandeliers to plush carpets.
Mary led me to a beautiful bedroom, with a stunning view of the gardens. “This will be your room dear,” she said.
It was so beautiful “I’ll leave you now I need to prepare lunch,” she said before leaving and shutting the door behind her.
I fell onto the bed immediately thinking about how my life was going to be from now on sadly I was stuck here and this was my forever.
I dozed off a bit then woke up with a knocking on my door “ Hi ma’am I’m Natasha and I work here maam lunch is served” she said all in one breathe
I just chuckled at her nervousness “Thank you Natasha I’ll be down soon and you can call me Gianna” she just squirmed out.
Well, that was a little awkward.
I shot into the bathroom ran a quick bath and hopped into a simple sundress and descended the stairs.
It smelled so good down here that I seem to have forgotten to eat since.
I smiled at Mary when I saw everything she had cooked and set up but Nikolai was nowhere to be found.
Seems like I was going to be eating alone. Well, I sat down and began eating.
“Mary my sweetest girl in the world” I heard someone scream while running towards Mary.
“You know I missed you and your food”
“Alec you were here yesterday,” Mary said to the guy looking tired of him already
He was tall, almost as tall as Niko but not the same he also had tattoos all over. He was dressed in black pants and a white button-up shirt.
Once he turned and caught my stare, he launched at me and hugged me. To say I was kinda surprised but again I wasn’t after seeing the way he talked to Mary.
“You must be our pretty bride,” he said while smiling brightly
“Uhmmm I think so, and you are?” I asked
“Oh I’m Alec, Alec Volkov”
“As in Nikolai’s brother?”
“Something like that but we’re cousins, even better right?” He joked.
He seemed and acted so fun but looked scary physically.
