Chapter Six: Surprise

Damian's pov

I was deeply buried in work when I heard a knock on my door

Thinking it was my assistant I say a “come in” without looking up from the files I was currently doing over

“Mr.Voss”A professional voice greeted

I abruptly looked up to see her standing there

Aria

How come she was here ?

I definitely didn’t expect her to come to my office herself

She was obviously dodging me so imagine my surprise seeing her here

“We are back to last names now?,Drop the act Aria”

“It’s business,isn’t it?

“Right,business”I adjust myself on my seat and look intensely at her.”you are here for your proposal.”

“Yes, I had to personally make a trip to your office because you refuse to stop acting like an arrogant prick.Why send a contract over when you knew you weren’t going to approve my plans?I am not in the mood to play games with you so just sign on if these plans”She coldly says while dropping folders upon folders on my desk.

“Hmm” I mutter as I pick up one of the folders containing her design plan.”So you think you would just waltz into my office and I will sign your plan?Don’t make me laugh Aria”

“I thought we could discuss like sensible adults”

“Adults” I repeated while releasing a dry laugh. “That’s rich coming from the adult who disappeared from my life like air on the day of our anniversary.”

She sharply looks at me with anger and disbelief

That was what I saw in her cold eyes

She was really different now

No longer the girl I was knew

“I don’t want to talk about it.let’s not start this here”

“I didn’t start anything,Aria.you f*****g did when you left me like I meant nothing to you” I harshly answer back

She looks at me then closes her eyes and after a deep breath”This isn’t about us Mr.Voss,I am here for business and only business.You have been stalling my proposal for weeks now just pick one already”

“ I have been busy and the designs are not up to my standards”

“Not up to your standards or you want to frustrate me?”

“As I said I have been busy”

“Busy rejecting everything I sent to you”she fires back at me looking extra pissed

But I didn’t care anymore

“Ohhh forgive me Mrs.Voss that I am busy trying to figure out what I did to deserve this from you.After four years of disappearing from my life you pretend like we never met on the meeting and now you are in my office still pushing aside the topic we both need to face.Sorry as I am not eager to sign the proposal just yet”.i walk towards her now backing her up against the wall

“Don’t pretend we don't know each other. We are married for f**k’s sake or whatever we are now.

We loved each other.What changed.why the silent treatment,why the coldness”

“Loved, Damian.Not anymore and I am not pretending,we don’t know each other anymore”she says

“Damn,Aria.you may chose to pretend and you might rather not remember but I do,this office does or did you forget everything that happened here?How we f****d all over this place?how we spent our days inside this same office?”

She freezes”don’t do that,don’t bring up the past”

“The past? You mean the one you f*****g ran from without stating the reason for your disappearance?

Aria,you left me with nothing but question”

She looks up sharply”so you think I left you for no reason?”

“Then enlighten me because I have had so many questions running through my head for four f*****g years”I reply back

She looked down and let out a sigh “ You won’t understand”

“Then make me understand Aria you made me feel like a fool leaving a wedding ring and a note behind.I searched the entire city for me and all I get is a “you won’t” understand line”

She looked calmer now.”I am not here to rekindle dead feelings Damian, let's face business.”

“Dead?” I let out another dry laugh “your eyes don’t relay the same message as your mouth”.

A lot of emotions flash her face and after another deep breath she coldly says “oh please don’t tell you have left running your business empire to start reading human eyes whatever I felt for you died ages ago” she says as she moves to the other side of the office

“You are lying”

“Nope I am not.Let’s not have a pointless conversation.Either sign the proposal or don’t.I have wasted enough time here”

She moves to leave my office but I hold her wrist to stop her from leaving, still not satisfied with her vague answer.

“Why can’t you just tell me,tell me exactly what I did so wrong for you to walk away from everything we built together. We were happy together”

“As I said, it's the past now. I don’t owe you anything Damian,not anymore.Goodbye”

She leaves me standing there

I stood still for a while staring at the door and inhaling her faint scent.

I head back to my desk

Looking through all the folders on the desk

Of course the designs are superb

I expected nothing less from a company run by Aria

But I couldn’t sign it despite wanting to

Because as soon as I sign it she will complete her job and I will have no other reasons to see her anymore

The contract was the only thing holding us together for now and without it I can’t find an excuse to be close to her

I had to hold back till I figure out why she left

I had no f*****g idea and I needed closure even if we end up not being together

She had better be prepared for me

Because she was going to see a new me
