Everything was back to normal. Everything was as it should be. Mary sat in the back of the full church, listening to Marcus’s sermon, and watching the parishioners lose themselves in the rhythm and cadence of his words. They had all been relieved and thankful, if a little wary, when Mary insisted they reopen the church. But as the days and nights passed into weeks, and the vampires never returned, everybody began to fall back into their old lives.
