Chapter 5 – The Forbidden Kiss The night air was thick with rain and secrets. Selene wandered the old house, unable to sleep. Every shadow seemed to whisper his name, every creaking floorboard echoed the memory of his presence. The locket felt heavy in her hand, as if it carried the weight of centuries. And then she saw him. Adrian. He stood at the top of the grand staircase, the dim light from the moon painting his features in sharp relief — the dark hair, the glowing eyes, the presence that made her chest tighten. “Why are you here?” she demanded, her voice trembling despite herself. “To see you,” he said softly, stepping down slowly, deliberately. “To speak with you… before the curse tightens its grip.” Selene swallowed hard. “You’ve been in my dreams. Calling me. Watching me. Why?” Adrian paused, his gaze locking with hers. “Because you are mine. And I am yours. Even if the world forbids it.” Her heart raced, but fear and desire warred within her. “You’re dangerous.” He smiled faintly, stepping closer. “And you are irresistible.” Selene stumbled backward, hitting the edge of the table. The candlelight flickered, casting dancing shadows across the walls. Adrian’s hand reached out, brushing hers — a touch that sent shivers down her spine. “Don’t,” she whispered, though her body betrayed her, leaning slightly toward him. He leaned closer, his voice a low whisper. “Selene… the world may call this forbidden, but my heart has no choice. You are mine.” Before she could think, his lips were on hers. It was not a gentle kiss. It was fire and ice, passion and danger all at once. A kiss that burned through the fog of fear in her mind, igniting memories she couldn’t yet understand. Selene tried to pull away, but something in her — some buried part of her soul — wanted to melt into him. “You can’t,” she breathed against his lips. “This… this isn’t right.” His forehead rested against hers. “It is. It has always been. We were meant to find each other… no matter the curse, no matter the cost.” The candle flickered violently. The air grew colder, heavier, as if the house itself was protesting. Shadows twisted in corners, whispering warnings she could barely comprehend. Selene broke away slightly, eyes wide. “The curse… it’s dangerous. You… you might—” “I know,” he interrupted, voice raw. “But I cannot leave you. I would rather burn in hell than spend another lifetime without you.” Her chest heaved. Fear, longing, and desire collided, leaving her dizzy. “You don’t even know me… not really.” Adrian’s hand cupped her face, thumb brushing her cheek softly. “I know enough. Enough to love you. Enough to wait. Enough to protect you — if you let me.” For a long moment, silence filled the room, broken only by the rain tapping against the roof. Selene felt something shift deep inside her. A warmth spreading where terror once lived. A whisper in her soul telling her that even forbidden love might be salvation. And then — a loud crash! echoed from upstairs. The spell was broken. Adrian pulled back instantly, his expression tense. “Something’s coming,” he said, eyes scanning the shadows. “The curse… it knows we’re together.” Selene’s heart pounded. “What do we do?” He took her hand firmly. “We survive. Together. No matter what it takes.” And in that instant, she realized that fear no longer controlled her. Desire, love, and the impossible bond she shared with him had already taken root — and nothing, not even a curse older than time itself, could stop it.
