Chapter Four GuardianTHE YOUNG BOY was stretched out on an operating table, his long limbs dangling over the edges of the uncomfortable metal. He had slipped into unconsciousness an hour ago when he had begun to shake uncontrollably and the weakness in his legs had become too much for him. His body was pale, almost translucent under the harsh white glow of the lights strung above him. His pink eyelids were so thin his light-blue eyes could be seen beneath the papery skin.
