ShadowCALLISTA JUMPED DOWN from her stallion and ran to the cart. With a thundering heart, she pulled aside the linen curtains covering the back of the carriage. The sight that met her eyes was bewildering. Soren stood with his back pressed against the wall of the cart, his eyes wide and afraid. His head shot up when he heard Callista pull the linen aside. At the sight of his mother, tears welled in his eyes. He ran over and threw himself into her arms. Callista caught him, staggering backwards, and held him tightly, her eyes locked onto the stranger who lay on the floor of the cart, cackling maniacally.
