“ Can we talk for a moment, Ashley?”
I heard the urgency in his voice. What did he have to say now?
Julie and Helly looked at him with widened eyes as if they could not believe their eyes and ears.
I faced him and saw his expression. There was hope for a moment of reconciliation.
"What is there to talk about, Dad? You made your choice." I asked, my expression hardening.
“ Ashley!” He said, desperation evident in his eyes.
Tears welled up in my eyes, but I fought to keep them at bay. " I did what I thought was best for Zach and me. I wish you could understand that."
My dad sighed, his stern facade cracking just a little. "I know, but it's hard. I had such high hopes for you, Ashley.”
