The glass walls of the conference room did nothing to muffle the heated exchange happening inside. I froze mid-step, coffee mug clutched tightly in my hand, as Helly's voice carried through the partially open door.
"Keep your mouth shut around Ashley, do you understand?" Helly's normally pleasant tone had transformed into something sharp and venomous. "Some things are better left unsaid."
I pressed myself against the wall beside the door, heart hammering against my ribs. I shouldn't be eavesdropping, but hearing my name had stopped me in my tracks.
"Are you threatening me?" Sophia's voice rose indignantly. "Because if you are, I'll take this straight to HR."
A cold laugh escaped Helly's lips. "Go ahead. Nothing will come of it. I have... protection from above."
