Amy and Susan got to school early enough to watch it all from a safe distance as Yates was carted out of the kitchen and hauled away in an ambulance. When Gloria finally arrived at school, she told them that she’d overslept but they knew better. The bruise on her cheek was proof enough of that. Her father had been waiting up for her.
