“Am I your mate?” I asked with a curious frown. It was the only logical conclusion I could come up with. The only time a wolf would ever give a human a second glance would be if she was his mate; and considering he'd let me live despite knowing who my father was, it made sense that I was his mate.
And I didn't know if that brought me comfort or terrified me even more.
“No,” he replied, playing with a lock of my hair. “If you were, that would make things so much easier for me.”
I didn't know what to do with that. I tried to make myself more comfortable in the hospital bed, despite his closeness. But it was hard with his imposing presence.
And the fact that he didn't understand the meaning of "personal space". Because the second I pulled away, he just followed.
