Pepromeno Avenue was a deserted strip of empty road, with open lots and abandoned warehouses on one side, boarded up homes on the other. I rolled down the window, looking around for a sign of life, but there wasn’t any. My destination was nothing but a field of snow-covered grass surrounded by a tall, rusted chain-link fence. “You sure you want off here, kid?” the old guy asked from behind the wheel. “Might want to double check that address of yours.” He looked back at me, taking me in. “Guy like you’s liable to get mugged.
