Chapter 1

Beginning of the end

Why am I feeling dizzy?

What's wrong with me? Nora asked herself quietly, She stood up and felt a kind pain at her lower region then noticed blood on the bed causing somekind of thought going through her her “hope its not what i think” She thought. The incident of last night came running through her head in a flash.

Her stepdad asked her to go on a dinner date with his friend's son, Jason. Jason is a very handsome guy, but she has never met him once, except that night.

Now that she remembers Jason, she also remembers why she is in this weirdly-looking hotel room. Last night, she was feeling kind of dizzy, and Jason volunteered to take her home. She realized they were going in the opposite direction from the door, but she was too intoxicated to react. She remembered him taking her to the room and shutting the door, how she kissed Jason as if her life depended on it. But she never knew it went that far as to take her pride that she has kept for 24 years.

But where's Jason? She asked herself. She went to check around the room but didn't see any sign of him. She decided to go home to meet her stepdad, and she boarded a taxi to go home. Home… that place has a lot of memories, both good and bad. The thought of her father playing with her when she was young made her sniffle. Even if she misses her father, she's grateful to her stepdad for taking care of her.

20 mins later

The taxi slowed down when it got to a magnificent white mansion, Nora paid and walked into the house when she heard voices, although she couldn't tell what they were saying she had some familiarity towards those voices. She was able to recognize her stepdad, but there were two other people there.

She walked in and everywhere became still, her stepdad asked, "Where the hell are you coming from?". That question didn't bother her until she saw that one person that she grew hatred for in less than an hour...it was Jason. What was he doing here? He was done for, if my step dad found out what he did to me! She murmured to herself.

Before she could answer, her dad asked again "Nora where are you coming from looking like this? Why did you stay out so late?". "Dad, if you will let me talk, you will know!" She screamed. She was going through enough for crying out loud. She just lost her chastity, and she wasn't going to take it lightly.

"Dad, Jason r***d me!" She said finally. "He drugged me then had his way on me. How could you link me up with such a person?" Nora cried.

Jason rose and replied, “What makes you think I would want to touch someone as filthy as you?” “It was all part of the plan, nothing more. But I wouldn't touch you, you aren't in my league” Jason said, irritated by her outburst.

Before she could speak again, she was interrupted "How can you say my son r***d you?" Jason's father asked ferociously. "Mr Gilbert, is this how you have trained your illegitimate child to behave? Jason told me how badly you wanted him to kiss you. You are a lowlife who goes around trying to force herself on men and went they say refuse, she accuses them of r**e?"

“Dad I swear, Jason r***d me!” Nora said again.

“Stop saying that nonsense, I wouldn't even touch you, but if you must know what happened to you, I can tell you; we got a hooker to satisfy your needs. You were begging me for s*x but I know wouldn't stoop that low to your level to f**k you. So I got someone of your type”. Jason said with an evil grin.

“Mr Gilbert please warn your daughter or I'll get her arrested for defamation”. Mr Austin said with a warning note.

"Mr Austin, I'm sorry, forgive her stupid blabbering, but she's not my daughter. I can never have a daughter like this". Mr Gilbert said. "I have always told her mum to teach her manners but she doesn't listen, if not that she's the heir to all of Shawn's companies and houses, I would have sent her away a long time ago."But all that ended now!" He said angrily and his eyes full of greed. "Nora, from this day you seize to be a part of this family, all your properties and assets have been transferred to my name already, so you are of no use anymore!" He proclaimed. "Just a filthy p********e like your mother!" Mr Gilbert said

How could this man mention the dead in such a harsh manner, why would she hear their mother a p********e? Nora watched in dismay as the man who she thought loved her ended up being a monster who was just after the wealth and assets. Not because he loved her or her mother. She kept staring at those faces (from Jason to Mr Austin to her stepfather). She felt her world crumbling down. She had nothing more to say. She broke down in tears. She felt betrayed and wondered where she could go. She had no friends, no relatives, just her and her stepdad and now he's gone too but this time not dead, he just left her betrayed.

"No need to take your things. They don't belong to you anymore. I can't have a slut staying in my house" Her stepdad said. She left and felt their evil and wicked stare following her as she left.

Life didn't mean anything to her no more, she just wanted to die, she would find solace and peace in the hands of her late father, she's sure he would be waiting for her with open arms. As she left Shawn's mansion, she decided that life isn't worth fighting for anymore.

She crossed the road but didn't look at the traffic light which was saying stop for pedestrians, she started walking, staring into the blank space and lost in thoughts. She wanted her life to be taken quickly. Just then a truck came at full speed, she couldn't move from where she was standing. She closed her eyes and waited for the pain before death, when suddenly she felt being pushed out of the road. She opened her eyes and saw a girl, her face was familiar but she couldn't tell where she knew her.

"Nora, what happened to you? Didn't you see the vehicle coming? Hope you're not hurt?" The girl asked which made Nora look up at the girl and knew her instantly, her childhood friend Elsa, they were so close when they were children. They did a lot of things together, played, ate and wore matching outfits too. They were like sisters. She immediately hugged her with tears flowing down her cheeks "Nora what happened to you?" Elsa asked again. Nora couldn't say a word, the pain was too much. Elsa got her from the ground and took her to her mother's house. Elsa's mother Sara welcomed Nora warmly and gave her a room to stay in.

2 weeks had passed before Nora could talk about what happened to her. Elsa and Mrs Sara don't want to rush her cause it might open new wounds. Nora finally told them what happened to her, but that was in the evening, when she braced herself to speak. Anytime she thinks about it she cries and when she told Elsa and Mrs Sara, she cried too. They were sad and wondered why people could be so wicked. “I'm sorry my dear, people sometimes are not who we think they are” Sara consoled Nora. “I’ll treat you like my own child, you are not alone in this world!” Sara consoled again. Nora was pleased to have someone who cares about her.

Nora had started working where Elsa works to be able to have a small income coming in as she was so broke she didn't even leave the house with anything. Everything was taken away from her. She had to work to assist Elsa and her mother in paying the bills.

A month had gone by and although she still feels bad and cries sometimes, she had promised herself to continue with life. She was preparing for work one morning. It felt as if it was going to rain so she hurriedly got ready to go to work but she felt tired and feverish. She concluded to herself that she needs to go for a check-up. After she took the test, she waited to be given the results. A nurse came to invite her into the doctor's office.

The doctor is a young and handsome guy probably in his late twenties, wearing casual clothes, guess he just came to visit the hospital. He smiled as he welcomed her into the office which gave off the look of sophistication and simpleness, with little detailing and a picture of him and a woman on his table it is also very clean and tidy. You can't see any littering or dust in this office. It was rather impeccable.

"Good day I'm Dr Melvin" the handsome looking doctor said. "Good day Dr Melvin, I'm Nora" she said smiling. "I'll go straight to the point, Miss Nora. You're a month pregnant, although it's still early but we were able to spot it. Congratulations Miss. So where's the father of the child? Let me congratulate him also" Dr Melvin smiled at her. “Doctor I'm sure you're joking, I can't be pregnant, I shouldn't be” Nora said almost breaking down. How could she be pregnant? When did she have s*x? Was it because of what happened that night? Nora started crying when the thought of that night came again and Melvin knew something was wrong. "I'm sorry Miss Nora, I wasn't supposed to ask that question," Melvin said. It was against his work ethics to pry into people's privacy but somehow he felt that closeness between them that he had to ask.

"Thank you Dr for the concern but it's a bit complicated" she said crying as she went into details of how she was drugged by her date and sent a hooker to have his way with her, sent out of her family home, moved in with Elsa.

Melvin felt heartbroken, he didn't know why but he felt like protecting this young lady. She left the hospital after Dr Melvin and her exchanged contacts to be able to reach each other. Melvin wanted to help her and her unborn child and didn't want them to suffer at all. Nora got home, went to her room and locked the door. She felt like dying, why would something like this happen to her? Nora was down for the rest of the day but had to keep a fake smile because she didn't want Elsa and her family to get worked up.

Nora kept thinking about what to do even while they were having dinner. “Nora! Nora!!” Elsa jolted her from her world of thinking back to reality. “Nora, what's wrong? Are you sick?” Elsa asked, looking at her from head to toe as if looking for the sickness. “I'm fine Elsa, it's just stress from work”. Nora said. Nora walked back to her room after dinner and shut the door. She was thinking of how to solve the issue at hand and then she came up with a plan, one she might regret but she will have to do it. All she needed now was money and she needed it fast before the pregnancy would come to light.

The next day, Nora boarded a taxi to the hospital. “Please is Dr Melvin in?” Nora asked a nurse passing by. “Yes he is around but he's busy at the moment, he's conducting an operation. But you can wait in the Waiting room.” The nurse replied hastily “Okay nurse, thank you” Nora said.

Nora walked through the corridor and heard people crying. She wanted to know what was happening out of curiosity, when she heard two nurses at the corner murmuring “It's a pity she lost her child” the first nurse dejectedly. “I feel sorry for her, it's her 3rd pregnancy and it has always ended in miscarriages”. The second nurse replied sadly. Nora felt bad, she was wondering if this wasn't a sign for her to stop what she had in mind but she had already crossed her heart. No turning back now. She got to a room which had a sign saying Waiting room. There were two

visitors who were still waiting for the doctor; a pregnant woman and a woman with a child who looked sick, she knew she was going to stay there for a long time.

An hour later, Nora had dozed off on the chair that she had been sitting on. A nurse finally invited her into the doctor's office.

Dr Melvin was sitting in his office looking at the file in front of him, he raised his head when he heard the door open. He saw the figure coming in and smiled at her, he had been expecting her but not this early. Truth be told, he had even missed her, which is funny because they don't know each other, not to mention the closeness he felt towards her.

“You're welcome Nora, you may have a seat” Melvin smiled as he pointed to the chair directly opposite him. “Thank you Dr” she said as she took her seat. She went straight to the purpose of her coming. “Dr Melvin, I'm here to ask for an abortion” she said finally. Melvin's face changed from the welcoming smile to a rather sad and pitiful look, “Why would you want to kill something that can bring joy to your life?” Melvin asked quietly, he knows what she has been through but that doesn't mean she should just take the life of the innocent child. “Dr, I can't take care of the child, my friend's family I'm living with barely has enough I can't keep burdening them” Nora sobbed quietly. Melvin was moved, he wants to help Nora but terminating the pregnancy isn't the only way. “Nora, I can help you provide for the child, it's not a big deal, although it's not my child but I can help the little I can”. Dr Melvin said while praying inwardly that she will accept his offer. She couldn't express her gratitude but she wasn't sure why the doctor would be so nice to her.

…Maybe he was just a man with a good heart.

…Or maybe he likes me.

…What's there to like about me? I look so ugly and uncatered for right now.

…Maybe he didn't care about beauty.

Many voices swam through her head, whatever his reason maybe she was grateful.

“Thank you so much Doctor, I can never forget what you are doing for me and my child”. Nora appreciated it. “No need to appreciate me yet Nora. I haven't done anything yet, moreover it's not a big deal but I would need you to do one thing first”. Nora was surprised, does he want me to sleep with him or what? She sighed resignedly “Yes Doctor, what do you want me to do?
