Evil beyond The Trees

1081 Words
Kicking up the dry leaves that littered the street path, I walks along the woods unsure of my expected destination. I had just moved to town a few summers ago, but still was intrigued by the fascinating sights of the mountains and landscape. Returning from my day job at the only convenience store in town, I decide to take a detour instead of returning home. Home didn’t seem to offer as much comfort as it should these past couple of days. Being out in the nature seemed to offer more comfort and freedom of spirit than sitting around and staring at the sunset. I loved the open air. The breeze as they ruffled the leaves, pushing some off the branches and filling the street paths with bright yellow plant litter. How the sky complimented the mountain edges. The smell of the earth, the colors of the celestials, and the touch of the wind – everything about here was an experience I couldn’t experience completely even if I try. There was always something interesting to experience. Unwilling to return home in the early hours of the evening. As I walk through more plant litter, as she pauses and heaves a sigh. The town reminded me of who I was before moving to the city for college. I was a vibrant young girl, with a spirit that ran with every idea it could conceive. My parents didn’t let me play much due to a reason best known to them, so she found solace in her own company which was mostly among the birds, butterflies and flowers in their home garden. Now, I was done with all that college drama and had chosen to settle in this small town alongside my best friend from college, Emily. Emily had pressured me into coming to settle here with her after our graduation – and although I had no real reason to refuse the invitation, something about this town fascinated her.The tenderness of the weather, how the sun always seemed to shine gently through every season – and the moon. The moon was always glorious particularly when it was the full moon. Sitting with all the confidence in the night sky, l loved to dream about how magical the moon was as it lit up all the edges of the town. The wild life was another exceptional piece of this town I loved. It wasn’t unusual to see squirrels, reptiles and even wolves roam unbothered through the woods. Although it was common knowledge not to walk the woods late in the dark, I wouldn’t mind the caution as she walked on a bit further with her head tilted upwards looking deep into the eyes of the fading sun. I took a deep breath as I smile happily to myself, taking in the sounds of nature into my head. “ I need to take a picture of this place”. I said to myself as I take out my camera from my bag. I take the first click as I look at it again. Thud!!!! I looked around to see what made that sound but nothing showed as I look back to the picture, smiling. Thud!!! Unbothered by the sudden sound, I continue walking the path but the sun had begun to sink softly into the clouds and the once lit path was slowly fading away with the light. Thud!!!! This time around, I became more curious and scared at what kept on making that sound. That sound hits the air again, but this time it was accompanied by a cry – a human cry. It didn’t seem to be very far off. “Perhaps someone is in trouble!” I wonder loudly as I turns towards the direction of the sound with frantic steps just short of a sprint. I gets to the edge of the road edge but didn't see anything or anyone. I looks through the area, puzzled as to know whether the fatigue from my day job and an aimless hike had made imagine sounds that didn’t exist. “ My imaginations are finally getting hold of me”. I shake my head, laughing at my crazy behaviour as I turn in relief but what I saw shocked me - the size of a wolf twice the height of any wolf I have ever seen in the woods. It growls at me, with its eyes glowing with a bright yellow hue. I was mistaken with its size – this wolf was twice my size even on its paws. Terrified to the bones! I let out a loud scream and begins to run forward deeper into the woods but h my legs didn’t seem to carry me as fast as my mind would imagine and in a few split seconds – I felt a heavy nudge behind my back and is thrown into the air. Out of balance and swinging freely in the air, I hits my head on a tree trunk but is lucky to not go out unconscious. And just as my eyes begin to fade away I catch a glimpse of an even larger wolf tackling my assailant away from my direction. The two large wolves tackle each other, growling fiercely as they ruffled up dust and dry leaves that covers my sight from the ongoing violent incident acting out before my eyes. I felt blood dripping down from my head, wetting the leaves as the two creatures continue fighting. They growl angrily at each other, I believe they must be arguing about something. But definitely it isn't my problem for now, I just pray I survive this pain am feeling now. I shouldn't have come into the woods today, I should have gone home from work straight. Alot of thought kept running through my head as I took a deep breath for the last time. A wave of relief washes through my head and flows into my fingers as my eyes shut out slowly as my body lay unconscious by the tree. I looked at the pale looking girl laying besides the tree as i heaved a long sigh, I hate to do this but I have no other choice. I don't want to believe that I am helping our enemy, definitely not me. I watch Ryan growl angrily at me as he race into the deep wood. I have alot of case to settle when I get back to the pack definitely and it's all because of this human! Bloody humans!!!!
