Emily, a short and seemingly plum lady with red hair that complimented the freckles on her chin was over at the stove mixing a tea brew. I walk over to Mia and hands her a cup.
“Here, it’ll help with the headache from the cut”. I said.
“What happened?” Mia responds as she stretches out both hands to take the hot coffee cup from me.
“The local Sheriff found you lying in the woods and they called me being your emergency contact.”
“It’s not like I know anyone else in this town” Mia replies with an even deeper sigh of relief.
“So what were you doing all by yourself in the woods? You know not to stay out late” I said with the same cold expression in my voice as I take a sip of the tea that has covered the room with its saintly aroma.
“I wanted to walk a little bit. To nowhere I admit but I thought I heard something unusual. A cry I supposed. I went to have a look, perhaps someone had an accident but I didn’t find anyone when I got there”.
“And?” I cuts in
“And… I’m not sure. I remember seeing this terrifyingly large wolf. Not sure if it was even a wolf. It was twice my size. And I tried to run as swiftly as my legs could carry”. I chuckles with laughter.
“What’s funny?” Mia requests.
“I don’t recall you being a good runner” Mia says as she takes another sip in an attempt to hide her face now reddish with laughter.
Mia, unimpressed continues: “There was another one! The one that saved me from the first giant wolf? I think it was a wolf. Just unusually large – it was terrifying”.
“That’s enough” I said as I gestures to Mia to hand her the coffee cup.
“You’re possibly seeing things and perhaps its fatigue from your ungodly hours at that convenience store. Get some rest, and I’ll call the owner in the morning and call in sick for you”.
Silence hung tightly on the air in the room. A bright red eyed Caleb was staring impatiently at all the occupants of the room. Derek, who was tied to the dining chair, had lost control of himself a few hours ago after he broke away from his human form and charged at a human. He was still unconscious after I had knocked him out with my heavy paws during our scramble in the woods. My look was giving, a clean shaved Caucasian man with dark brown hair that distracted the eyes from the scar that sat above on my left brow was the group’s Alpha wolf. My eyes had an unflinching resolve, particularly with my voice that never seemed to dance whenever I speak. I was responsible for all the wolves in this country. I am the Alpha not because I am the largest wolf, James is. But I possessed the spirit of the moon after I had killed Darius, a lone wolf that sought to take over their territory many full moons ago. And of course, those red eyes. Those were Alpha eyes.“What do we do now?” announced a perplexed voice that printed in sound the thought on everyone’s mind including mine. This was the fifth time in three months Derek was out of control.
The first incident happened during hunting practice. I had instructed the group to only track the Coyotes in the area and Derek losing himself from the group had run into a pack of Coyotes. And in a moment of panic, he had fallen off a cliff as he ran.It was a short fall but long enough for Derek to drop down as a beast twice the size of a grizzly bear. An unfortunate event that was, as Derek fell into a camp of hikers who were camping in the woods for the night and with the surprise of the moment had fired hunting rifles at Derek who stormed off into the woods.
“We aren’t safe are we?” the same perplexed voice cut into the silence again. It was Sarah. She was the youngest werewolf in the group. An omega wolf and not until recently was unable to shape shift from her human form into a wolf. Not until the last full moon. It isn’t a pleasant experience the first time. Sarah had lost her consciousness after her bones will not stop stretching out, forcing her spine to extend painfully as she dropped to her knees. The flurry of flashes that swept through her head didn’t match the burning sensation on her skin. Her skin had begun to rip in patches as hair rapidly forced itself to the surface.
