*Chapter 3: THE WEST WING* 🔥
---
1:43am. The mansion was too quiet.
Chioma lay in Room 301, staring at the ceiling. Silk sheets. Cold room. ₦50 million contract on the nightstand.
_West wing is off limits, Mrs. Okoye. That means you too._
Daniel’s voice replayed in her head. But it wasn’t the words. It was his eyes. For 2 seconds at dinner, the billionaire looked scared.
And Chioma Nwosu didn’t do “off limits”.
She slipped out of bed. Bare feet on cold marble. The house staff were asleep. Cameras, maybe. But she was done being told what not to do.
The east wing was all light and glass. The west wing was... dark. No lights on. The air felt heavier here. Like the house was holding its breath.
Her fingers brushed the door handle. Locked. Of course.
She pulled out the key card he gave her. _Room 301._ It wasn’t supposed to work here.
Click. Green light.
The door opened to blackness. Smell of old books + something metallic. Chioma’s heart hammered. Clause 2: _No questions about my business._
She flicked the switch.
Gasps.
Not a room. A gallery. Floor to ceiling photos. Dozens of them. All the same woman. Different ages. Laughing. At the beach. In a hospital bed. With a little girl who looked exactly like Chioma.
At the center: one massive portrait. The woman’s eyes were Chioma’s eyes. Same shape. Same defiance.
“Who are you?” Chioma whispered.
Footsteps behind her.
“Breaking Clause 2 already, Mrs. Okoye?”
Daniel. Suit jacket gone. Sleeves rolled up. Face carved from stone. But his hands... his hands were shaking.
Chioma spun around. “Who is she? Why does she look like me?”
Daniel didn’t answer. He walked past her, straight to the portrait. Touched the glass like it would break him.
“My sister,” he said finally. Voice rough. “Amara Okoye. Dead 5 years. Leukemia.”
The air left Chioma’s lungs. The hospital bed photo. The ventilator. Ada.
“Her daughter,” Daniel continued, not turning around. “Your age when you signed the contract. Same blood type. Same... eyes.”
Chioma staggered back. “You didn’t buy a wife. You bought a replacement.”
Daniel turned then. And the cold was gone. Only pain. Raw, ugly, billionaire pain.
“I bought a donor match,” he said. “Amara’s daughter needs a kidney. No one in the family is a match. Then my investigator found you. Chioma Nwosu. 26. Nurse. Perfect match. And desperate enough to say yes.”
The contract on the nightstand. The ₦50 million. Ada’s bill.
It wasn’t for Ada.
It was for her.
Chioma’s knees gave out. She caught herself on a table. Photos rattled. “You lied.”
“No,” Daniel said, stepping closer. “I paid. ₦50 million for one year as my wife. And one kidney when her doctor calls. That was Clause 4. You didn’t read the fine print.”
Tears burned Chioma’s eyes. Not for herself. For the girl in the photo. For Ada. For the lie she walked into.
“Get out,” Daniel said quietly. “West wing is off limits because grief is ugly, Chioma. And you weren’t supposed to see this.”
Chioma stood. Straightened her back. The nurse. The fighter. The woman who wouldn’t break.
“You bought my body,” she said, voice shaking but clear. “You didn’t buy my consent. Touch me for that kidney and I’ll cut your hand off, Mr. Okoye.”
She walked past him. Out of the west wing. Out of his secrets.
Behind her, Daniel whispered: “I know. That’s why I chose you.”
