Chapter 20: more problems

The school day passed in a blur – students submitting assignments, taking exams, getting ready for holidays, the football team having a game later today.
school was finally over, and it was time to head home. I'm not looking forward to having dinner with my mates girlfriend and her family. Lily and I were walking towards the exit when she asked me, "Sofia, what's going on? You've been a bit distant, barely ate your lunch. Is something wrong?"
I said, "I don't know... Damian... ex girlfriend or girlfriend is in the pack and she kissed him in front of me.
Lily said, "Hold up, he had another girlfriend aside from Vanessa?"
I said, "Well, yes and She's not a wolf, another species, but I didn't get to know what species she is."
What got me really angry is the fact that she hugged him, and he hugged her back, acting all romantic in front of me.
He didn't even acknowledge my existence when she was there. I think... I think that man is going to hurt me again. I think he's going to disappoint me. This is why I didn't want to give him a chance.
Lily hugged me telling me to calm down, that it might be a misunderstanding, and I should hear him out. She said that in these few months, she's seen the way Damian's been making an effort to make things work with me, and I shouldn't let some girl take my mate away from me. I should fight for my mate.
I said, "What's there to fight for?" My wolf is awfully quiet, not acting all possessive about Damian, so it's not helping matters.
She said, "Maybe just find out who the mystery girl is, and don't jump into conclusions, okay?"
While we were talking, Philip pulled over. I hugged her, and we said our goodbyes. I entered the car, and Philip and I exchanged greetings, chatting for a while. He complained about the girl, how bratty and rude she is, tormenting omegas in the pack house, commanding everyone like she's the boss.
I looked at him and said, "Maybe she's your luna-to-be."
He said, "Never. Our luna-to-be is you. You and we recognise you. Besides, nobody wants a werebear as our future Luna."
I looked at him and said, "What? She's a werebear?"
He said, "Yeah, she's a bear. She came with her father, a high elder in Bearmont. He came to discuss important matters with the alpha. She and Damian... they dated for a bit when he went to Bearmont for training."
I said, "Oh, alright."
We finally got to the pack house. I came down, and the luna was standing in front, looking at me. "Sofia, my darling, thank you for coming," she said.
I said, "Well, I didn't have much of a choice."
She said, "I know this seems... bad, but just hear Damian out. He and Betney had a small fling, but it was nothing serious. You are his mate, and nothing's going to change that fact. No one's going to take your place in his life."
I looked at her and said, "The only reason Damian's with me is because I'm his mate. He doesn't love me. Maybe Betney's the girl he loves. First Vanessa, now another girl... there's no way I'm competing with her."
She said, "There's no need to compete, Sofia. You're very beautiful, more than she is. Just... let it go, everything will be okay between you and Damian. I will make sure of that okay.? I nodded.
We were having small talk, when the alpha joined us. and I greeted him. We headed inside, sat down to have dinner. I sat at the chair close to the luna, and Damian immediately came to sit beside me. I was still giving him the cold shoulder. He mind -link me saying I miss you baby, let me come over to your place later so we spent time and okay? I responded saying okay honestly I miss him too.
Lily is right. I won't let some girl take my man away from me.
I saw the omegas bringing out food, and I saw my sister Vanessa. She wasn't looking good, looked worn out, not like her old self, making me have a slight pain in my chest. She may be a bad sister, but she's my sister, and the way she's looking... I'm not comfortable with it. I hope there's a way to make the punishment end. Not shifting into your wolf for a very long time... it's a punishment worse than death.
Our eyes met for a brief second, and she immediately dropped her eyes and looked down. My mother and father came down and sat in their usual position...
My mother looked at me and smiled, which shocked me – that was a first. My father looked at me and said, "Sofia, how are you doing?" I smiled back at them and said I was fine.
My relationship with my father has been a bit okay; lately he's been cool with me and always coming around making sure I have everything I need in the house. Sometimes I feel it's because I'm going to be the future Luna, and he just feels proud that his daughter is mated to the future Alpha. But I can still manage – any small love I get for my parents.
My mother looked at me and smiled, asking how school was today. I answered that school was fine. I was really surprised with how nice she was being to me.
Josh and Mark came down, and they sat down close to Damian Then the dinner started. I was just playing with the food. I wasn't really having much appetite to eat. Bethany spoke up, interrupting the comfortable silence that everyone was enjoying, and said, "I don't mean to be rude or anything, but why is an omega sitting with us having dinner with us?"
Before the Alpha could answer, her father, Lord Marcos, spoke up and said, "Yes, it’s disrespectful for Omega to sit in my presence. Who is she? Who is she to you people?"
Immediately, my mother spoke up, "Well, the omega has a name, and her name is Sofia
My father also spoke up, "And she's not an omega, she is my daughter, a Beta female."
Bethany with a shocked expression, said, "Well, she seems like an omega, not like a Beta."
I thought to myself why Damian wasn’t saying anything in my honor.
While she was talking, Vanessa mistakenly spilled wine on her. She was trying to pour the wine into the glass cup, and... Vanessa quickly said, "Oh my God, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ruin your dress. The bottle slipped out of my hand and poured on your dress."
Josh and Mark were holding in their laugh because we all know it wasn't a mistake. Vanessa deliberately poured the wine on her.
Bethany stood up and started screaming, "You filthy omega! How dare you? Can't you see? Are you blind or something?"
Vanessa said, "Excuse me, I already apologized. It was a mistake. And besides, do not call me a filthy omega. I am a Beta female, and those are my parents. And the person you called an omega is my little sister and Damian’s mate.
Bethany said, "That is not possible. Damian cannot have a mate because... because he is my fiancé."
Immediately, Damian said, "No..."
I was really shocked, wondering why my sister was standing up for me, why my family was suddenly standing up for me... I didn't even know I was crying.
Damian said, "No, I'm not your fiancé. What happened between us was... I'm sorry things happened the way they did, but I'm not going to reject my mate to be with you. Yes, I promised to be with you, and all that, but when I go back to the pack, I found out Sophia was my mate. I'm not going to reject her for you."
Immediately, her her father said, "You cannot ruin my daughter and leave her like that. Who's going to be with her?"
My mother said, "Oh please, she's not the first girl to be with him, She'll get over it. My daughter is his mate...
Lord macous said, "That doesn't really matter. Damian will have to reject her because my daughter is pregnant for Damian, and that is final."
I was so shocked hearing that... what?! Pregnant?! Fiance?!
