Chapter: Unexpected Attack

Elder Marcos pov. I’d wanted power for as long as I could remember, and I didn’t care what I had to do to get it. My father crowned my younger brother king instead of me, even though I was the firstborn. He said I wasn’t fit for the throne and left it at that. I hated every second of watching my brother sit on that seat while I played second-in-command. As long as my father was alive, I knew I’d never get what I wanted. So I fixed that problem. I sent a couple of assassins to take him out during his usual morning run. They did the job clean, and no one ever found them. Five years later, I took care of my brother too. But the bastard had one last trick. With his dying breath, he passed all his powers and the title of king to my nephew, Zorvath. I was pissed, Zorvath turned out to be a tough, ruthless king. Every time I tried to take him out, he crushed my plans hard. and I knew I needed a different way in. I needed a new plan, and that's when Damien Blackwood arrived in Bearmont for training. Damien was young, but he had already built a ruthless reputation. The Blackwood Pack stood as the second most powerful pack after the Royal pack, both in Aetheria and the human world. They had money and connections in the human world too. Big businesses, investments, and deals that most packs could only dream of. The old rules of the Blackwood Pack were very clear: anyone who mated with or married to the hair or the alpha of the Blackwood share equal power with them. Full access. Full authority. That was exactly why I needed my daughter Bethany to mate with Damian Blackwood. If she became his mate, she would hold the same power he did. And as her father, I could use that connection to my advantage. I could expand my own businesses deep into the human world — legitimate ones and the ones I kept underground. With Blackwood’s financial backing and influence, I could pull in more capital, grow my operations faster, and most importantly… it would make it easier to kidnap more human girls for my underground businesses. The kind of work they did for me wasn’t the type you advertised openly. But with the kind of money, protection, and status the Blackwood name carried, I could attract them more easily whether through promises of good jobs, luxury, or simply the pull of power and wealth. I brought Bethany back to Bearmont, using a spell by my lover who’s a dark witch to make Damian fall hopelessly in love with her. She was beautiful, and the spell would ensure he wouldn't resist. It worked for a while until he found Sofia, was his fated mate, and the spell was broken. I was furious, but I wouldn't give up. I headed to Bethany’s quarters to move to the next part of my plan, but her maid said she’d gone out with Damian. Perfect timing. I called my rogues right away and told them to sneak into the pack and take care of Sofia. One of my guards tracked her down and said she was heading into the woods. I quickly called Bethany and told her to keep Damian distracted so he wouldn’t come back anytime soon. The rogues let me know they were getting close. I gave them Sofia’s exact location, hung up, poured myself a drink, and sat back in my chair. All I had to do now was wait for the good news. Sofia pov. The rogues lunged at me. I slashed across the rogue’s side with my claws. It yelped and stumbled back. The others stared at me, surprise etched on their faces. One of them shifted back, his voice laced with disbelief. "We didn't know you could handle yourself. I thought you were just an omega, you took down a big wolf. I smirked. " Big wolf? That was a small wolf compared to the ones I took down in my pack." Albaz’s Spoke sounding board, "Sofia, enough talking. Let's take down these filthy rogues." I grinned, agreeing with her."The feeling's mutual. rogues killed our grandmother. I have a special hatred for them. Two more wolves charged at me from the side. I dodged quickly, staying low, and swiped at their legs. As I took down the first few rogues, I noticed something strange, a tingling sensation in my fingertips, I focused, and suddenly, a nearby stick shot out of the ground, piercing the next rogue's heart. I gasped, shocked by my own ability. "Telekinisis," Albaz explained. "You've tapped into it, Sofia." The remaining rogues charged, and I raised my hands. More vines and roots responded when I needed them, tripping the wolves or holding them down long enough for me to finish them with my claws. Albaz spoke up sounding happy, we have taped into our Earth element, I asked our what? She responded saying i will explain later let’s finish this rogues. Vines wrapped around their ankles, holding them in place as sticks pierced their bodies. Blood splashed everywhere, and I felt primal satisfaction. These were the creatures who'd killed our grandmother, and I enjoy killing them. By the time the last rogue wolf went still, I was breathing hard and covered in blood that wasn’t mine. My claws were still out, and my arms felt tired. That’s when I heard footsteps crashing through the bushes. Josh, Mark, and a few other warriors burst into the clearing. Mark quickly shifted back to his human form in front of me. He had been carrying shorts in his mouth so as soon as he shifted, he grabbed it and put it on. I couldn’t help but look at him, he has a really nice body, toned, strong, and sexy in that rough way. Damn, he’s actually really hot, I thought to myself. Then I quickly shook the thought away. But Damian is way sexier. My mate is on another level. Mark reached me first, looking worried. “Sofia, are you okay? What happened?” I wiped some blood off my face and tried to catch my breath. “I’m alright… mostly. A bunch of rogue wolves attacked me. I couldn’t mind-link any of you. It wasn't going through at all.” Josh looked around at the dead wolves and the messed-up ground. “How did you manage to fight them off like this?” The other warriors looked around, their faces grim. "You're bleeding Sofia," one of them said. I chuckled, feeling a bit dizzy. "Oh, this isn't my blood. It's theirs." Mark's eyes widened as he took in the scene. "How did you...? This looks like a massacre." I smiled, feeling a surge of pride. "Well, I'm a bit more capable than I seem." Albaz spoke up saying, "Don't reveal too much, Sofia." I nodded, trying to play it cool. "It's a story for another day." And I asked them how they knew I was here. Mark said,“I felt your distress. like something was really wrong. I told Josh right away, and we grabbed some warriors and came running. The protector bond led us here.” I blinked, confused. “Protector bond?” Mark nodded. “Yeah. As the gamma, I'm Luna's Protector. Even though you and Damian aren’t fully mated yet, the bond has already started forming. It lets me sense when you’re in danger. That’s how we found you so fast. Albaz's connection with my wolf,Sage, probably helped strengthen it too.” I looked at him, surprised but grateful. “Thanks, Mark. One of the warriors handed me a bottle of water. I took a few sips and felt a little better. My legs were still shaky, but I was trying to stay steady. Josh walked up, holding his phone. “I already called Damian. He should be here any minute.” Mark nodded. “Good. He needs to hear all of this.” I tried to stand up straight, but the dizziness hit me hard. My knees gave out and I fell back. Josh caught me quickly, holding me up. “Easy, Sofia," he said. In the distance, I could hear Damian shouting my name as he ran toward us. Everything started to blur, and I fought to keep my eyes open, but the darkness was coming fast.
