Chapter 19: Carefree

1303 Words
Jerald's POV I walked over to her door, opened it and held her hand to lead her out. I wanted to make sure she had the best time today because she deserved the best and I was going to give it to her. I almost laughed looking at her wrinkling her nose as if trying to sniff out the place, so she could find out where we were. She looked so cute and so carefree. Every time I look at her ever since we met again, she is always occupied and I can tell those thoughts are not merry. I know you might be having some wild guesses of where we were but to be honest no one would guess we'd be here because it is a weird place for a girl to like. But Scarlet does. I held the small of her back and led her towards the entrance. I hoped she still liked this place as much as when we were kids. This was one of her favorite places and we used to come here with our parents every weekend because she used to insist. I also grew to love this place as we grew older. We made our way in and the security guard greeted me, to which I just nodded and proceeded. I led her to the center, and positioned myself so that she would be facing me. I didnt want to miss any expression on her face. I removed her blindfold and waited for her to open her eyes. As soon as her green orbs took in all her surroundings. I have to admit, the look on her face was priceless and I couldnt help but take a picture. she had way too many emotions etched on her face that I couldnt make out what was running through her brain, but one was clear. Happiness. She did a 360 and her hand went to her mouth in amusement. She was laughing with tears in her eyes and though I said she was happy she was still crying and I do not like to see tears in her eyes, even if you folks call them tears of joy. They are still tears. "the Amusement Arcade!" she cried out, "I cant believe it" she said as the tears finally dropped from her eyes and I had the urge to wipe them away but then again I wanted her to have her moment. "wow!" she screamed as she lunged forward to touch one of the games and the next and the next and the next. And all I could do was follow her around satisfied with the reaction I got. She looked so happy that I couldnt help but smile at her innocent ways. "come on lets play the x-men" I pulled her along towards one of the arcade machines. We played almost every game in the arcade with her winning most of the times and I know I let her win most times but it was worth that innocent and heartwarming laughter. We sat down for a while as I watched her have her milkshake with a smile. "we used to come here every weekend with my parent” she said smiling reminiscing about the past. "Remember how we’d play x-men and you would always win. Id go running to our parents that you cheated” she said tears falling from her eyes. I moved closer to her and wiped away every tear that fell from her eyes. "And aunt would scold you for cheating and blame you for teaching me how to play older kids games” she hiccupped. "and-a-and do you remember that one time we went to the arcade without our parents knowing and we got grounded afterwards" she laughed out loud "I do, we spent the whole day at the arcade and our parents searched all over the town, even went to the police but we didnt even know what was happening. We played till evening when a couple found us sleeping in the park. All because someone slept before we made it home." she looked at me with a big smile holding her laughter "that didnt happen" she said, laughing "yes it did, I gave you a piggy back till we reached the park and I was so tired. The couple asked us our names and took us to the police station where we were identified because our parents had been there more than once that day." she looked at me but this time surprised. She was too young and sleepy to remember all the events of that day, but looking back, it was funny. Our parents grounded us by not letting us see each other for a week but I still managed to sneak out and into her room every night after her bedtime story with her father. "how come I don't remember anything like that" she asked amused. "I dont know, you were so young and especially sleepy that day. So how could you remember?" I said getting up and dusting my pants "shall we?" I offered her my hand and she gladly took it asking "where are we going?" “you'll see" I said leading her towards the door "isn't this place usually packed? Where is everybody?” she turned around to face me as we left the arcade “its just for today, more precisely for 3 hours I explained "you booked the whole thing?" she asked covering her mouth out of surprise. ************************************************************************************ Cally I smiled as made my way up to my room. I still found it hard to believe that everything that happened was real. I went to a restaurant, I had nice food, went to the arcade and after wards went to a park where I tried the roller coaster for the first time. The best part was when he took me to one of his restaurants and cooked me dinner. I've never had such a beautiful day in my whole life and I can't believe it's actually real. I felt like singing but then I realised my life was no musical. I got to my room and threw my bag on the floor and myself on the bed clutching my phone to my chest. The time was 1:30 in the morning, I couldn't believe I came home at midnight and still I didn't want it to end, but here we are. My phone chimed and I quickly checked . I smiled when I read his text Jay: Go to sleep Cally, we will have more days like these. I got up to see if there was someone else in the room. Otherwise how else would he know I was still thinking about my day with him. Me: you've not left yet? Jay: I have. I just guessed and it turns out I was right. I could imagine him wearing that all knowing smirk on his face. Me: haha funny. I'm going to bed now, goodnight. Jay: is that you trying to be sarcastic? Me: thank you for today Jerald If someone came to me yesterday and told me that something like this would happen to me, I wouldn't have believed them. Even I find it hard to believe. Jay: how many times will you say that, I should say thank you to you for coming with me Me: coming with you? You kidn*pped me, lol. Jay: but you Iiked it Me: no I didn't Jay: you did Me: okay fine, you win. I liked every minute of it. I placed my phone on the bed and rolled over holding my pillow smiling and I didn't even realise when sleep overtook me. For the first time I went to bed anticipating the next day and for the first time I had a peaceful sleep with no nightmares.
